Lemmy has an NSFW toggle. The only reason it doesn't have any adult content is that nobody is posting any (and that nobody has set up an adult community yet). There are several Mastodon instances dedicated to porn so it's not like the wider Fediverse is strictly opposed to it either.

Your friendly, local site admin may not want to deal with the moderation challenges that come with porn, though. If you want it, you may need to (convince/pay someone to) set up a dedicated adult content friendly server.

I can't find the community you're referring to, but I did find out through another NSFW community that users that aren't logged in can't see any posts tagged with NSFW. If you've found the community through Google or a link somewhere, that could explain why it's empty.

The more likely option is that someone probably mirrored a bunch of reddit subs to try to attract reddit refugees and ended up (accidentally?) cloning some porn subreddits as well. I found a lot of communities named after subreddits that seem completely dead.

The problem is no one wants the liability of potentially illegal porn being hosted on their server, so instances are banning it. Which, who can blame them? I do enjoy the NSFW freedom though, and I hope a better solutions is found
