I think that's cause Sam is a car guy not a driver or strat guy. Imo though, he is the car guy.
So how many of his predictions were born out this weekend? I thought we were in for a three stop race at Ferrari, if Sam was to be believed. Look, I love the guys energy, but he is wrong way way waaaaay more often than he’s right — so how exactly is he an expert?
Wow you came back to this huh? I don't think what's important about Sam is his predictions...that was the point I was trying to make because 'predictions' involve coalescing a whole bunch of different aspects of the sport at the same time. Do you watch Sam's beloved tech talks? Every week he goes in deep about car upgrades and I think it's pretty clear that yes he's an expert. Just check out the Hungarian gp tech talk and the comments on that video. Maybe you're right and literally everyone commenting on that video is an idiot, but I certainly learn something from every one that I watch and I think a lot of other people do too.
Yeah I think it’s important to balance supposedly knowledgeable tech talks with reality checks. I’ve watched his tech talks before, but they’re the same over confident “explanations” of CFD or changes down to airflow that imo don’t seem to be backed up by statistical or actual evidence. It’s easy to sound expert, but it’s not clear to me that he’s much more valuable than any of the other pundits F1TV / Liberty is employing. Ex-Aston strategy Bernie Collins over at Sky, for example; or ex Red Bull engineer Blake over at Engine Mode 11 both seem way more knowledgeable and their insights seem to correlate more to reality — and are better pundits as a result.
Imo the car guy should be able to make accurate predictions/statements about the car, but I haven’t exactly seen that from Sam
