I am currently trying to create a hotkey, that executes a sequence of inputs, to switch my equipment efficiently.

What I need is a way to disable all other inputs, while it is executed. As well as a way to only have it executed once per button press. Independent from how long it's being held.

This is a guide and shell script to run steam through gamescope on a non-logged in Linux system.

Basically you can remotely connect to your Linux system through ssh, start steam without a desktop environment, and the games will run that way only accessible to the remote streaming devices (ie steam deck, steam link, or other paired steam client).

How do you mod games on the Steam Deck or Linux in general? I've seen so many videos and tutorials but nothing seemed to work.

Hey folks, long time first time.

I'm interested in getting some recommendations for default settings for my OLED Steam Deck which I mainly use hooked up to my 55" TV in my living room.

Main questions:

1. what should I use for default settings on the Steam Deck for this setup?
2. what game specific settings should I make for games, and do I make those in Steam for each game (Game library page - properties - game resolution: default/native/specific) or inside each game's options menu?

If it helps, here's a list of games I'm mostly playing:

Skyrim DRG Unrailed Bramble Gloomhaven

Gloomhaven specifically is something I would like help with because it's so much text and lots of things that end up over lapping (card side drawer on the left with the character action/initiative tiles displayed at the top)

I know I can install it using Pacman but for that I need to create a root password and then run some command to install programs on the OS which is immutable, but honestly if all I want is to install KDE Connect I see unnecessary to do all that, isn't there a simpler way?

I already tried with flatpak but there is no KDE-Connect repository in flatpak, and following this Reddit tutorial doesn't really lead to anything since the repository seems to be dead.

Edit: KDE Connect came pre-installed in the Deck.

Curious how people view the steam deck and if most/all their games are supported?

If the majority of a users playtime at the time of review was from playing on Deck, the review will have a Deck icon next to it.

The game in the screenshot is SAND LAND. You can view the reviews here to easily see some examples of this new icon.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to filter reviews to show Deck reviews only.

This article does a good job of talking about how poor the windows experience on a handheld is, and why SteamOS could dominate handheld devices if windows doesn't start to make serious changes to improve it's useability and performance.

To be clear, I don't want to see windows succeed here, I would absolutely love to see SteamOS take over the handheld space and be a real linux ambassador to show people that they do have other choices than windows for their computers.

Not my footage but thought SteamDeck owners might be interested in seeing this.

Unexpected but looks like some bad frame rate dips here and there with around 20fps in most scenes where there’s a few things going on.

I've finally gotten around to releasing these formally after much testing of prints and usage.

The Twystlock system is a set of 100% 3D printable gaming accessories that require no printed supports or additional parts. This means no springs to buy and no metal elements to melt in, just access to a 3D printer and a bit of super glue. Originally designed for the Steam Deck, these accessories can be applied to the case of any mobile gaming device.

The Twystlock connector itself is designed as a quick-connect that secures parts together with a simple twist motion, can be fully recreated with affordable home-based 3D printers, and doesn't require complicated supports to print. The first use of this connector has been for the Steam Deck, specifically to supply an alternative accessory platform that is more accessible to the everyday 3D printing hobbyist, however it could be utilized as a connector in almost any environment.

This is a post I wish I never had to make. Forgive my grammar and spelling as I am a bit emotional.

My Steam Deck was stolen and I just had it for less than 2 months.

It has been more than 2 weeks since it happened but it still hurts the same. I wanted to make this post because it was a very costly mistake from my side and I don't want it to happen to anyone else.

It happened when I was shifting from one house to another house and there were lots of maintenance workers at the destination house. After I kept my luggage inside the house, I left to buy some essentials. My mom was the only person left who was watching over the stuff. By the time I came back, the workers had left. I thought I have some free time so decided to pull the Steam Deck out but it was missing.

I was absolutely devastated; I can't even begin to explain in words what it felt like. I asked, through the person who hired the workers, if they took it. But all the workers refused. I was just crushed; I could feel my heart dropping into my stomach. Even now, as I am typing this story, that emotion is replaying.

After this happened, I removed all payment methods from my Steam account (Steam Guard 2FA was already active). I saw after 5 days that the Steam Deck was online for a brief period of time, via Steam Guard. I purposefully didn't sign out of the device because I wanted the thieves to make the mistake of signing in and giving me some clue about their location; the Steam Deck was still inside my city. I took the IPs and submitted it to the police and asked them if they could track it. They said they will try their best since getting the customer details from an IP is a "lengthy and time-consuming process". But at this point, I can't do anything; it's not possible for me to visit all the worker's home individually and check as I don't have the authority. I gave up and convinced myself to move on.

This taught me a lot of things and I wanted to share with the community, now that I have slightly recovered mentally.

Secure your luggage when moving

When you are moving, you usually have a million thoughts in your head. This can cause you to neglect your luggage's safety. If you are going to unload your luggage temporarily, KEEP IT IN A SECURE MANNER FIRST and then do everything else.

A secure manner could mean

• Under someone's watch
• Putting it far away from the exit
• Putting a lock on the luggage
• Putting it inside a cabinet and locking it

Don't just unload the luggage and start doing something mentally involving.

Be wary of outsiders

Sometimes, there will be outside people in your home. It's crucial to keep the Steam Deck out of reach of everyone. Not everyone is a thief but different people have different moral standards. Don't create a tempting scenario for others. Keep it secure when there are guests/workers at your place.

Put some form of tracking on the device

The Steam Deck is like a traditional laptop; it has no SIM or GPS. Once it's lost, it's really hard to get it back. There are methods by which you can track the Steam Deck (Steam Guard) but it involves IP and it's not enough to get an exact location. Other than law-enforcement, no one can find the customer details associated with an IP address.

An alternate approach, which can be slight pricey, is to put a Tile tracker on the device. There are tutorials on how it can be attached to the device.

Note: I'm not associated with Tile in any way.

Get the official Serial Number and MAC ID of the device

It will help you to uniquely identify the device IF it gets stolen. You may find the serial number on

• The bill of purchase
• Inside the Steam Deck settings section
• On the Steam Deck package
• You can ask Steam support for the serial number once it's associated with your account The MAC ID is present on the Steam Deck settings page (and also on your access point logs if it has connected even once).

I hope this post is educational and makes you wary of the physical dangers around us. Please keep your handhelds or any valuables safe

What hurts even more is that the Steam Deck, which was the 1 TB OLED model, was a gift from a very special person and I feel like I have betrayed that person by losing it. I had lots of plans with the device, like making a couch plug-and-play setup, a retro gaming setup, a productivity device by using desktop mode, etc. But all my plans were shattered in an instance. I'm now convincing myself to move on to something else.

Edit: As of 20th August, I can see via Steam Guard that the device was logged into a few hours ago (2 weeks post the burglary). I know the risks involved in keeping my device signed in. I'm counting on the person's stupidity. Any proper thief would have formatted the device.

This seems kinda silly, but I remember someone here was asking this exact product awhile back.

To be clear, this is for just the pillow and mounting arm, which can be used with various devices. For the steam deck specific mount, you'll also need this, or their full steam deck bundle.

We had the incredible opportunity to review Black Myth: Wukong ahead of its release and verify that it’s actually playable on the Steam Deck! Bluetooth

• Fixed a 3.6 regression with the Steam Controller and some other third-party controllers causing session crashes.
• Fixed an issue where Bluetooth peripherals would disconnect on session switch.

Display

• Fixed an issue where the internal display could remain blank after disconnecting an external display.
• Fixed a 3.6 regression where the selected refresh rate setting would sometimes not apply immediately.

These are some good fixes, I've run into some of these issues.

There are better options for some of these game launchers, things like Heroic and Junk store would be better options for Epic for example. However this tool supports a ton of platforms, and is very possibly the easiest way to play games from a lot of these platforms on Deck.

Recent patch notes sounded like they might be hinting at upcoming ROG Ally support, but it's now confirmed.

It’s only currently planned for PC, with no controller or console plans yet — and Mountaintop won’t necessarily allow Steam Deck to join. “Steam Deck is a concern as a cheating vector, and I think our anti-cheat systems may block it right now,” Mountaintop CEO and cofounder Nate Mitchell tells me.
