It’s now been four years since the release of David Yarovesky’s Brightburn, a horror take on Young Superman that was notably produced by James Gunn. The film told the origin story of super-villain Brandon Breyer, and it pulled in over $33 million worldwide on a $6 million production budget.

In light of Danny Masterson being sentenced to 30 years for rapes, it should be noted that back in 1993, the cult sensation — Beethoven's 2nd — already warned us about him. This predates (no pun intended) the Conan clip making the rounds of late by more than a decade.

Exhibit 1

Seth (Danny Masterson) tries to get George Newton's (Charles Grodin) daughter Ryce out alone ("Say, are you going to be around for a while?") and gets deflated when she says she's actually out looking for someone else.

image

Exhibit 2

George finally gets to meet Seth. Right off the bat, he's immediately suspicious of him and tries to break the tension by making small talk about his dirt bike. When asked by Ryce what he thinks of Seth, George reacts exactly how I would if questioned what I think about rapists and Scientologists.

image

Exhibit 3

Seth meets Ryce again by chance on the town fair and asks if she's there with her parents (weird) and attempts to invite her on a "picnic" (mega weird). When Ryce correctly answers that she needs to tell her parents first, Seth whines that they'll just say no because he could tell George has a low opinion of him. He then says that he understands and expects to win him over once he gets to know the real Seth.

image

Exhibit 4

Despite the movie wrapping things up by setting Seth up as a good guy, George remains wary and dubious of him.

This would be Charles Grodin's final film shoot before taking a long break from acting — only to return in 2004, the same year as Danny Masterson's infamous Conan interview.

I love the first two Hellboy films and also quite enjoyed the 2019 version as well (sorry haters)😆.

Much like The Crow reboot, there have been no images released yet so we don't know what actor Jack Kesy looks like as the titular Hellboy.

Both movies came out around the same time and I think they have a fair amount in common. Both movies have a fair amount of the "Can they do it?" tension and detail the events behind a major trend.

I think I preferred BlackBerry over Tetris. It seemed more grounded in a way where as I felt Tetris depicted Tetris, the game, as bigger than the second coming of Jesus and sliced bread combined. I felt like it made for a more enjoyable and relatable story.

For a Canadian film it has a surprising amount of big names such as Glenn Howerton (Dennis from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Jay Baruchel (from Tropic Thunder and Knocked Up). Here is a Wired review and here is the IMDb page if you are interested.

The Maltese Falcon is a 1941 American film noir written and directed by John Huston in his directorial debut, based on the 1930 novel of the same name by Dashiell Hammett and indebted to the 1931 movie of the same name. It stars Humphrey Bogart as private investigator Sam Spade and Mary Astor as his femme fatale client. Gladys George, Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet co-star, with the last appearing in his film debut. The story follows a San Francisco private detective and his dealings with three unscrupulous adventurers, all of whom are competing to obtain a jewel-encrusted falcon statuette.

The film premiered in New York City on October 3, 1941, and was nominated for three Academy Awards. Considered one of the greatest films of all time, it was one of the first 25 films selected by the Library of Congress to be included in the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". It is a part of Roger Ebert's series The Great Movies and was cited by Panorama du Film Noir Américain as the first major film noir.

Ummm ... I did not know this was being made! I always enjoyed the US Godzilla films (ok, the first/main 2, not sure about Godzilla v Kong).

I think I'm quietly hyped about this. I guess it falls into more of Apple's Sci-Fi focus?

Howl's Moving Castle (Japanese: ハウルの動く城, Hepburn: Hauru no Ugoku Shiro) is a 2004 Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It is loosely based on the 1986 novel of the same name by British author Diana Wynne Jones. The film was produced by Toshio Suzuki, animated by Studio Ghibli and distributed by Toho. The Japanese voice cast featured Chieko Baisho and Takuya Kimura, while the English dub version starred Jean Simmons, Emily Mortimer, Lauren Bacall, Christian Bale, Josh Hutcherson and Billy Crystal. The film is set in a fictional kingdom where both magic and early twentieth-century technology are prevalent, against the backdrop of a war with another kingdom. It tells the story of Sophie, a young milliner who is turned into an elderly woman by a witch who enters her shop and curses her. She encounters a wizard named Howl and gets caught up in his resistance to fighting for the king.

Influenced by Miyazaki's opposition to the United States' invasion of Iraq in 2003, the film contains strong anti-war themes. Miyazaki stated that he "had a great deal of rage" about the Iraq war, which led him to make a film which he felt would be poorly received in the United States.[1] It also explores the theme of old age, depicting age positively as something which grants the protagonist freedom. The film contains feminist elements as well, and carries messages about the value of compassion. In 2013, Miyazaki said Howl's Moving Castle was his favorite creation, explaining, "I wanted to convey the message that life is worth living, and I don't think that's changed." The film is significantly thematically different from the novel; while the novel focuses on challenging class and gender norms, the film focuses on love, personal loyalty and the destructive effects of war.

Howl's Moving Castle premiered at the 61st Venice International Film Festival on 5 September 2004, and was theatrically released in Japan on 20 November 2004. It went on to gross $190 million in Japan and $236 million worldwide, making it one of the most commercially successful Japanese films in history. The film received critical acclaim, with particular praise toward its visuals and Miyazaki's presentation of the themes. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 78th Academy Awards, but lost to Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. It won several other awards, including four Tokyo Anime Awards and a Nebula Award for Best Script.

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones - full book- free .pdf download

Howl's Moving Castle is a fantasy novel by British author Diana Wynne Jones, first published in 1986 by Greenwillow Books of New York. It was a runner-up for the annual Boston Globe–Horn Book Award, and won the Phoenix Award twenty years later. It was adapted into a critically acclaimed 2004 animated film of the same name, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Howl's Moving Castle is the first novel in the series of books called the Howl Series. This series also includes Castle in the Air, published in 1990, and House of Many Ways, published in 2008. WorldCat reports that Howl's Moving Castle is the author's work most widely held in participating libraries, followed by its first sequel Castle in the Air.

For the idea Jones "very much" thanked "a boy in a school I was visiting", whose name she had noted but lost and forgot. He had "asked me to write a book titled The Moving Castle."
