And why did you stop watching them?

My wife has been on a rom-com binge over the last year or so and something I’ve noticed when I’m vaguely paying attention or walking past is that almost every single rom-com features people who are, at the very least, middle to upper-middle class. These characters all live in gigantic houses/apartments, have beautifully sparkling brand-new cars, take month-long vacations to their beachfront properties… it’s just so unrealistic and out of line with the life that the vast majority of us lead.

I understand some concepts - large rooms are easier to film in, rich people own nice things that set a beautiful scene, it’s not interesting to discuss financial issues all the time etc. but this seems (from my anecdotal perspective) to almost be a rule of the genre.

Some more food for thought:

As the title says. I go for a 20 minute walk and when I stop moving, I'm not feeling tired or even agitated at all, yet my legs feel like they're pulsating in different areas, always near the skin. It's not synchronised with my heartbeat. It stops after a few minutes.

Chat GPT says these are just muscle twitches caused by dehydration or lack of electrolytes. I'm not convinced. Why does it feel almost on the skin and not deeper in the muscles? Why do I feel it after a 20 minute walk that doesn't make me sweat but I don't feel it after a 40 minute leg focused workout???? Wouldn't that be more strenuous on the legs?? Does this thing even have a name?

Thanks

Are there any comprehensive websites to use for a car problem?

The driver side drl on my 2020 passat is out and I cannot find the hub inside of it for it. I think it is going to require some disassembly. Checked google and youtube for hours, something needs to come off for it. I poked around and pulled out the turn signal but there are no other capped holes accessible through under the hood or body cover which I removed to poke around. My dad is a car guy but he knows old cars, not newer ones. He helped me a bit but has severe macular degeneration and can’t see in there. I felt up everything and found nothing. I took a look at the module online and I think I might have located that which would need to be removed but a few things look like they need to be removed to access it.

Waiting for the presidential debate feels like waiting for a train to crash. But how bad can it be?

What are your guesses at what will happen? I am curious to compare the answers to what actually happens tonight

I haven’t bought computer speaker setup in well over a decade, but getting back into gaming, any suggestions?

I ask, due to the fact it looks like the old brands are all over the place in quality these days, like the Logitech G560 Speaker System, whose required software is messy. https://a.co/d/00gehZRS

Which is really making me wish I kept up to date, as Amazons current “recommendations system” can’t be trusted for quality with so many being cheapo speakers and SEO ruining result searches.

Thanks in advance, as I feel like I’ve awaken in a speaker dystopia. 😧

It may-be a bit too niche for lemmy (and !aviation@lemmyfly.org is empty or even de3ad)

But is there a local software to visualize GPS traces ? One of my vario provider has it's own online UI, and the other has a web igc viewer, but sometimes I'd like to visualize them locally, especially with a way to see the airspace around

I don’t mean that the joke just isn’t funny, I want to know a joke that almost makes you want to fast-forward through the scene.

Have you went down any internet rabbit holes only to come out with a deep set existential crisis? If so, what are they?

I have noticed over the last couple of years that newer speakers no longer have grilles on them. It seems wildly unsafe to have a bare tweeter that any slight accident can destroy the expensive piece of equipment.

I've started sunbathing because... reasons.

second day: I applied sunscreen to my skin and after some 30 seconds of rubbing my arms, I started to see what I could be dead skin on my hands: tiny balls of grey and white junk, the size of one to several sand grains, but not hard to press like sand or a tiny particle of wood.

The other thing that crossed my mind is it could be rests of the chemical sunscreen I use. Has this ever happened to you with chemical screens?

Is this normal?

I've hears stories of some Americans telling other people who are speaking a non-English language "This is America, speak English!" even if the conversation has nothing to do with them. Why do they do this?

after running under the rain for 30 minutes my white sneakers had a foul stench. I tried disinfectant and washing them with soap and water and lots of rubbing and sunlight to dry.

While that got rid of most of the smell, my white sneakers are now brownish, specially around the shoelaces.

I've never washed sneakers in the washing machine. Am I going to ruin them?
