Me, short answer no.

I have a few daughters looking for science and engineering programs in the next few years. They're all scared to attend schools in states hostile towards women. I get that. I'm looking for recommendations for schools in states positive towards women that have good STEM programs.

When i was young I thought my mom's colorful decor was ridiculous. Now I'm old and my kids think I'm ridiculous for wanting colorful everything. Is that a thing?

What with the recent development in the supreme courts I'm feeling a necessity to do what I can with the time left, politically.

However, aside from the most rudimentary basic terms I am basically completely ignorant to all politics on a state and federal level, and while I'd love to sit here and self loathe for my idiocy of not learning before it was important I need to start catching up and figuring out what I should be voting on and why.

Of course I'm deathly afraid that indiscriminately googling will lead to me learning biased and compromised knowledge from sites that I don't even know are biased, ending up with a skewed and inaccurate understanding.

While I know I could still be led astray by you guys, I figured it better to ask somewhere like here than to just wander off into the internet, so can anybody help me and people like me to start getting equipped?

Those who don't identify as a fella also welcome to answer!

I'm getting tired of my wallet and I'm hoping to get some new ideas. Current EDC is my phone, wallet, and keys on a lanyard. Whatchu got?

Edit: I ought to be a little more specific with my EDC, since most people are kindly taking the time to do so.

Phone: Pixel 8 Pro Wallet: bulky leather wallet, I don't even remember the brand, I've had it so long. Keys: a stylized lanyard with various house keys, car key fob, and a keychain that reads "I hope your day is as good as my butt" from my wife. I have to keep that, you understand.

Misc: Burt's Bees chapstick, Listerine breath strips, and occasionally a utility knife depending on my destination.

I've seen these all over Europe. Some have simple images of the cross flashing, some have windows screensaver esque animations, and some have 3d renders of various things rotating in all sorts of ways. Why is that? Wouldn't a simple green cross be enough to get the point across, or do they need to be overly verbose? Here's the full video instead of a gif

Looking to develop my Data skills in all respects, especially programming (I'm at the beginner stage) with an IT coach/tutor online. I know of MentorCruise and the few well-known tutoring services but wanted to also check here with the popular wisdom 🙂

I know learning on your own is the go-to recommendation but I'm specifically interested in learn with a mentor. Would appreciate any advice!

As a fellow Gen Zer I feel like there is a generational gap. I want to see if I'm trippin or there actually is one.

I would love to have them light up like a scoreboard as each representative takes the floor, showing all of the commandments they have broken. If people want so badly to bring religion into politics then lets just show them exactly who they've been voting for. Maybe we can get the news networks in on this too, displaying it on the side of the screen similar to a sporting event.

What is your general attitude towards those who believe in religion whether they are jewish, Muslim, Christian etc etc.

Do you get on well with any religious friends and neighbours?

Have you ever thought of believing in a religion at some point?

If you do not like the faiths, why?

If you DO, also why? Does this come from your family? Maybe something went bad during your life?

I get that Lemmy might have the same stereotype in Reddit that there are loads of atheists, but there's a good reason why despite criticism of religion, it is still here.

P.S. I am not religious or anti religious in any fashion, I am agnostic.

I just bought a handheld emulator (Anbernic RG35XX) and I’m now overwhelmed with options.

I’m also expecting to be destroyed by the games some of you were playing as children, but whatever. Anything PS1 and older is appreciated.

Let's imagine, a world where 10 month a year, men and women don't care about each other. However, twice a year, during 2-3 weeks, non pregnant women produce pheromone that men can't resist and start calling every boy around to breed with them.

How would this impact the civilisation ?

I know about David Brin's *glory season * but not sure whether any other writer explored that idea.

Hey 🙂

i'm trying to find a painting that'd look cool on the wall above the head of my bed.

I like art, but don't know much about it.

Goya, Caravaggio, Blake, ... love that kinda stuff.

But i'd like to find an image that somehow depicts hedonism (preference hedonism / desire satisfaction theory) in a not so creepy way. Don't wanna scare away my potential companions 😅

Do you have an idea?

Thx!

I live in India and I am pretty poor, I hope to be middle-class/upper-middle class someday, but I have noticed something sinister from some people who are extremely privileged, they can be still be bought with money.

Lack of money makes you desperate, and paranoid, and comparison drives you crazy, hard to be morally perfect as a poor man, but I see actors who have made insane amounts of money on the backs of their Indian fans like Shahrukh Khan, Canada Kumar, Ajay Devgan, Hrithik Roshan and many more who are well-respected in the industry and who still can sell their own fans financial ruin (gambling) or death (Tobacco) in ads. I thought the point of being rich was that you could be more moral, what is the use of getting rich if you use your influence and fame to do more harm than good?

Also, all the actors mentioned above have made numerous movies about patriotism, many in their private conversations like to brag how much they "love their country... blah... blah... blah", but yet they feel ok selling Tobacco to their fans who made them what they are.

I have a cousin who worships Shahrukh Khan and who took up Pan(Tobacco) because he was naive and because he probably thought it was "cool" since his favorite actor (on whom he has modeled all aspects of his life was selling tobacco), thankfully we were able to get him off that a few years ago, but he spent money like water and he gained worse health for it. He got off easy, many suffered financial ruin or even death. So, when is it fucking enough!? When will these people have enough money?

edit: It's just not India, it happens everywhere (just watch CoffeeZilla to see more prime examples of this) Also, I am not saying I am perfect, if someone gave me an insane amount of money to sell Pan, I will, judge me if you will. But, I like to think if I had "enough" money, I would be immune to the attractions of blood money, I like to think I can try to be as moral as I can be then, but these people almost make me think that there is never "enough" money.

edit 2: Kurt Vonnegut's Quote on Money is quite interesting

With the recent overturned Chevron defense by SCOTUS, I was trying to find some good. DEA’s Drug War is arguably bad (not looking for that conversation here), so does Chevron overturned make their Drug Schedules weaker by law and can be more easily challenged and overturned?

For reference: Article 48 Wikipedia I’m trying to understand how anyone with any knowledge of the history of dictators could possibly justify granting a president unchecked “official” power so if anyone has any actual theories I am ALL ears.
