I’m having a hell of a time with my current ISP (sitting at 18 days now without a connection) and I’m having to bite my tongue every time I’m talking to them (Remember The Human and all that)

Whilst the front line support are nice people and answer the phones quickly they are honestly pretty useless and they never really sound like they know what they’re talking about, also seemingly none of the departments seem particularly good about communicating what’s going on so it’s hard to get a straight and useful answer out of them.

Have you ever lost it with a rep? What happened? and did it ever help push things along?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I need some advice. Tomorrow at 16:00 I need to pee into a cup at the doctor's office for a drug test and I am a very shy pee-er. Should I hold my morning pee from 8:00 to 16:00 to make sure I have enough of it or should I pee as soon as I wake up and drink water throughout the day and hope I have enough? Thank you all.

I travel a lot, and talk to a lot of different people. I've noticed that while people certainly do have differing opinions, it's not as extreme as what I see online. I'm starting to feel like all this hate and division is manufactured. Has anyone else noticed, that when you actually talk to real people things are far less divided than various media would have you believe?

For me, when I get books I often get the cheaper paperback option, give it a read.

Then if I really liked this book, I'll donate it to a charity shop or in my social circle and purchase the hardcover version.

The only gripe I have with hardcover though is some books come with that sleeve cover around it, you know the one, bit fidgety to use when reading.

Paperback I like if there's a book I am mildly interested in and I'll just go "whatever" I'll keep it as part a collection.

Paperbacks = cheap as chips but aren't as protected as hardcover, easy to fill up your collection or shelf with, might sell it if i want the luxurious version of that book. this is for me.

Hardcover = More luxurious as it provides proper protection to the pages and outer area of the book, Often comes with items as part of a collectors set. Usually I get the same book if I really enjoy it to add as a gem of my shelf.

What are your tastes? Same as me or do you lean more heavily to one or the other?

While I was documenting myself to create a romantic work between two women, I made a little detour and read a Manga (Love Hurts, by Kiriko Nananan) that made me wonder if the idea I initially had for my story is too idealistic to the point of bordering on childish. It's just that the manga portrays interpersonal relationships in such a raw way (compared to what I've been consuming until then), that perhaps the impact it gave me was even greater than I expected.

I understand that there are those who prefer an escapist work, experiencing more of a dream than a one-on-one copy of real life. I also know that there are those who don't see much value in escapism and prefer art to function as a mirror of reality. I personally found myself somewhere in between.

What I would like to know is which side I should lean more towards in order to do the best work possible.

For example, I opt out of all emails from a website. A year later they make a new newsletter and auto subscribe all to it.

I login, hit unsubscribe, then report as spam in my email client.

I figure auto adding me is more/less spamming me. Do y'all agree?

I want to buy a laptop for a few purposes, not my main laptop:

  • Use it to run !localllama@sh.itjust.works stuff and Stable Diffusion.

  • Use it for games downloaded from repack sites. So for these two, it would need a decent GPU.

  • I would like to pull out the WiFi card. I have offline computers and online computers. No need for this to use the internet.

  • I would probably dual-boot Windows and Linux, or else have it boot Windows and use a live USB when I want Linux

Thank you all.

Money is no object.

Okay, this is like a tech support kinda question but idk where the hell to ask it so I am gunna ask it here. My old keyboard died a couple of days ago. Just gave up the ghost, and I cursed the gods and got out my bluetooth keyboard. I had been using my lappy exclusively (so not using an external keyboard) but hooked it up to my monitor and started jamming away on the bigger screen. It's further away from my face, so I sometimes miss typos (or just can't spell and fk auto-correct). But I have also been noticing letters flipping from time to time at random. Just having a blast. I've got a real stream of conciousness way of thinking/typing/talking/existing - yada, yada! So I am not catching this stuff until later and tsk, tsking and going back and fixing it. Now I am wondering if I am experiencing rampant levels of dyslexia or if others know about some weird latancy issues with bluetooth keyboards where someone could type faster than the output so stuff gets jumbled? Cause idk, but like...hell idk. Doesn't hurt to ask?

So yeah, anyone know about this. Either way, not crying over it. Cause what am I gunna do? Keyboard does what it needs to...so yeah. Just find it weird, but maybe also I am typing WHOLE FREAKIN' NOVELS for every comment so shit gets messed up more. Eh.

I'm stuck at a crossroads between what to do with my own. Not sure if I want to make it more of a documentation/wiki style site for everything I'm interested in or if I want to treat it more like a blog. I've got it hooked up to ActivityPub now and I'm intrigued by the possibilities that brings to the table, but I don't think I'd want it to replace my Mastodon account, which puts it in a weird sort of limbo.

So I want to know, what do you use your own website for?

I am wondering what it is like to be a ghost or to experience reality without a physical body like the people who have died or live in haunted houses. Some people describe it as relaxing and other people say it's scary or unfulfilling if they did not accomplish things they wanted. If you guys have ever died or are currently dead, what is your experience?

Every time someone mentions an interesting book, I make a note of it. Then a couple times a month, I go back through my notes, pop open a website that shall not be named, snag em all, throw them into calibre-web and sync them down to my ereader. I can get hours of enjoyment from a 1-2MB file, and I love that. Same for older cartridge-format game roms, a N64 rom is generally under 50MB and can keep me busy for days, an NES or GB ROM is usually smaller file size than a book, and some great old DOS games clock in at a handful of MB.

What other great bang-for-the-storage-buck stuff is out there that you enjoy?

Both are on sale at Costco, at the moment.

$109 https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/product/ups/battery-backup/cst135uc2/

Or

$170 https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/product/ups/battery-backup/cst1500suc/

I got a rig with a i9-14900 with a 4070ti Super, but with local brownouts I was hoping either one will cover it. Hoping to go with a cheaper option, but if the group consensus is the more expensive option I’ll go for it. Thanks for the help! 🤞🤞

They are one of the most infuriating things for me. But I curious to know why is this a popular pattern in websites. Do people actually stop whatever they were planning to do and watch the video ?

I’ve blocked them on all my devices. But once in a while I see them when I use someone else’s devices and I wonder.

tl:dr; India is a terrible place to live in, Indians lead miserable lives and are not even aware of it, they are facing many other problems and they are not aware of that too, they are delusional and still stuck in the past. Being born poor in India signs you up for difficult to conquer problems because of the culture you grow up in, Human development happens at the pace of a tortoise here, India is a curse, now how can I get rid of the curse and lead a fulfilling and happy life?

I see the middle class Indians and while their life is better than mine, it's nothing to write home about. They are doing ok, they are not great and I am lower middle class, even if I try my best, I don't think I will be rewarded well for that. Indians start life at 0 while other developed countries are at an average of 4, Indians just dream of the 4, they just want that 4! That's their life, they pursue their life, whole lives, just to get a decent life! I don't want to do this, this doesn't excite me! Help! What can I do? P.S: I am a 22yo who is worthless and who has a worthless (0 value) degree from a useless Indian university, how can I improve my life!

If you want to read why I think being born in India is a multi-generational curse, carry on reading, otherwise, this was enough!

  1. Indian educational system is garbage and it doesn't create high-value labor, it produces unremarkable individuals.
  2. Indian infrastructure is a joke with everything built by the government being of the lowest quality.
  3. Indian is one of most corrupt countries in the world (top 10-20 maybe).
  4. People are extremely tribal and in the absence of resources for development, Indians will try to barter what little resources there are along community lines (reservations) than force the government to try and create more economic opportunities.
  5. Private Industry from foreign companies are a sigh of relief but due to above mentioned reasons (low-skilled labor, bad economy, bad infrastructure, stupid policies and Kafkaesque bureaucracy) most companies justifiably don't want to set up shop in India and this exacerbates the economy problem.
  6. Indians clamor for Western attention and approval, most of them do realize India is nothing to write home about but they don't understand the extent of the problem. They are way too proud of minuscule achievements. They are even less aware of how the culture that prevails now will produce nothing but failure. They lose it when anyone of Indian decent does anything noteworthy and they are way too proud to accept the problem. This is the reason why youtubers love to praise India, they know what works in India. The government takes advantage of this and calls everyone who dares to criticize the country or their government as anti-national. Many journalists have been jailed for reporting facts. We never learn and we are committed to never learning! Even when Indians leave India, they try to create a mini-India abroad and not go out of their cultural comfort zone.
  7. We are creepy! I was creepy, I am a little creepy still, I had to work A LOT to be able to be normal around women, that trope, it's real and it's just saddening in the highest degree. Indians don't socialize with opposite sex a lot and it's discouraged and sometimes forbidden in this culture to do so, so you create adults who can't really talk comfortably towards women. Took me a long time to realize the problem and solve it, the past me disgusts the present me!

Edit: 8. Indians lack any kind of civic responsibility. They throw garbage everywhere, they spit pan (tobacco stuff) anywhere and everywhere, open defecation isn't as big of a problem as people pissing in the streets but it still remains a problem, I have done this too (When I was little). I can't get my parents to not throw off plastic off the train no matter how much I explain then why it's wrong in multiple ways! Most Indian cities look like a garbage dumb than a place to live. If people at least had kept our streets clean and acknowledge the problems facing this country instead of being proud of mediocrity, I would have been been more than willing to try to turn things for the better here, but they don't!!

I can write a book about this, but for the sake of your time and mine, I will stop.

I have realized one thing after being born here, it's irredeemable! It won't get drastically better. I just don't know what to do about it and that is why I am asking you for advice!

I find it extremely difficult to articulate what I mean. I've gotten this feeling throughout my entire life, even when I was a child, and I'm sure there must be many others who've experienced it; I just can't find any mention of it online.

I'll give you an example. Sometimes you might be going from place to place, doing your own thing. When you're done with whatever you were doing, you just... stop ... and take in your surroundings. Suddenly the quietness around you seems to give you a tingling, comforting feeling that's quite honestly a beautiful feeling.

I'm 22, and I've been getting this throughout my entire life; and heck, I even get it when playing videogames (particularly open-world games), if they're immersive enough. The most common place I get this feeling in the real world is when I've been travelling in a car for a while (I don't drive currently, usually it's my mother driving me), and we reach our destination: The car stops; the engine turns off; the music on the radio goes silent, and I'm in no rush to hop out. For some reason this feeling rushes over me; it feels similar to butterflies and goes through my upper legs and stomach; even in my upper arms for some reason, but is all very comforting.

My earliest memory with it (although I know I had it years prior to this), was one day when I was 7-9 yrs old. I remember it quite vividly, actually. I don't remember where I had come from (probably school or something), but my Mum had been driving me for what felt like quite a while. She pulled into our front driveway and stopped. The engine shut off; the radio went silent. It felt calming, and I didn't get out of the car because I was just appreciating and enjoying the feeling of sitting in the quietness, with the subtle ticking sound coming from the cars engine you tend to hear when turning it off, just outside. My Mum said to me, something along the lines of "Why aren't you hopping out, Liam?". I don't remember what I said in response, but I definitely had no idea how to explain the reason to her; I find it difficult to even explain now as a young adult.

Now, I've managed to learn where and when to just "stop", and have this feeling come over me, like second-nature, but I still find that I can't well explain when or how it happens with words; that's why this post is so long.

As I said earlier, I also sometimes get this feeling when playing videogames. One of my favourite games of all time is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (The sequel, too). It's an open-world game where you can travel to almost every single nook and cranny of the land of Hyrule, on foot or by horse. One of the things I absolutely love the most, is just walking around the world, exploring, and taking it all in. I don't care about defeating every single monster in every single enemy campsite across the world, or getting from place to place in the shortest time possible, or finding the most powerful loot or weapons; I just like to immerse myself in the world, like I'm actually there. And that feeling I described: I get it around almost every single corner, especially in out-of-the-way places like the top-edges of cliff-faces, where people in Hyrule never visit. In fact, I can give you an example: I was watching IGN's video of the game from 2016 when it was still in development (video link is timestamped to where I want to show you), and because I had been watching this gameplay video for the past 20 minutes, I was very immersed and relaxed in the game world. As soon as the player climbed up to this rock that was protruding out of the cliff-face, he immediately turned around to stop and take a look at the view in the distance, due to being so high up. I immediately, immersed, had that feeling come over me again, and it felt so nice; as it always does.

Is there name for this? If so, what is this called? There has to be some kind of psychology behind all of this.
