From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

i like rhythmbox a lot and it's so great to use it as a music player but most of my music files don't even have any metadata it's just "song-name-author.opus" so it's a lot for me which is why i would use vlc instead yea!!! but anyway ummm why does xfce or gnome use rhythmbox??

How can you live that way?

[–] adrianhooves@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

i just liike it to be simple yep

That's fair. Though "simple" for me is actually having meticulously sorted and tagged media. That way it displays reliably and beautifully in most any player.

Nothing beats playing just what you want, when you want, whether or not there's internet available and at the highest quality you can afford. Quodlibet/Rythmbox, ID3 and puddletag FTW !!.

Nice.

I like a combo of FLAC + mpd/ncmpcpp, and running everything through Picard for tagging.

When I'm on the go (car or foot) I use a Hiby R4 DAP with VLC, and the collection translates flawlessly.

Also, scrobble all the things to libre.fm

woa cool thanks!! yea flac is awesome but i use ogg and opus for audio files, actually i think opus is the one youtube uses for their vids and stuff

You might want to check out ListenBrainz

have you tried strawberry ?

[–] popcorp@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 week ago

Exactly. Use strawberry, that's the best audio player.

[–] christophski@feddit.uk 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Love strawberry. Have have followed the family line from Amarok to Clementine to Strawberry

[–] christian@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hijack, but clementine used to have a "remote" available on fdroid where I could manage clementine on my pc from an android phone connected to the same local wifi. Is there anything analogous for strawberry?

[–] christophski@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago

I haven't checked, but the Clementine one might work as strawberry is just a fork of clementine.

Probably because it's long standing and fully featured. It's been going since 2001 after all.

Do yourself a favor and download MusicBrainz Picard.

If you want useless default apps, look no further than the Gnome Terminal.

Nothing wrong with it. I use kitty these days but when I used gnome I had no problem with gnome terminal for one off jobs and some variation of the quake terminal type apps for things I wanted to be ongoing in the background. My usage style has changed a lot since then but I'd happily use it again if I went back.

Uh, what was it in Artix again? One of the tools i usually uninstall on initial setup since i use mpv for music.

Btw, could you guys please stop shipping xfburn with the distro? Optical media gets rare nowadays.
