Yeah...for some reason I just don't see this happening

[–] makeitra1n@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But somehow I would love to see it. These two battling. But yea I also think Max is on another level at the moment.

[–] SatouKazuma@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh I agree. But it'd be bad for both RB and Leclerc, hence why I'd call it all but impossible (never say never and whatnot...).

[–] makeitra1n@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yea I think it would be like a Hamilton & Rosberg 2016 situation.

[–] SatouKazuma@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Precisely what I had in mind. Absolutely terrible idea for everyone involved.

[–] gspm@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Except the fans? If one team is going to dominate a silver lining for general interest is a competitive driver pairing at the top.

[–] SatouKazuma@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

The fans aren't involved, though...

Leclerc would never survive on the same team as Max.

[–] HerrVorragend@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Agreed. He may have the talent and speed but he lacks the ruthless "Don't give a fuck" attitude that Max has.

[–] eroc1990@lemmy.parastor.net 6 points 1 year ago

I could see him developing one, and both of them becoming more enemies than friends/rivals as they are now. I don't doubt that Charles has that kind of gritty attitude inside him.

[–] fmors@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

... that Max has and that Red Bull loves.

[–] shinobizilla@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

They might be both talented drivers but at this stage of their careers Max is far ahead compared to Charles. Red Bull is very much Max's team right now. For Charles, it's career suicide to move to Red Bull now. That's not saying he might not get to Max's level. He would probably need the perfect time and place (& team) to get there, an option very few drivers get.

I see Charles at Mercedes pairing Russell way more likely than at RB pairing Max.

The most interesting part of that article to me is reading that Danny's time in the tire test was only 7 tenths off of Max's pole time. That would have placed him 8th on the grid. For someone that hasn't been in a car this year, that's crazy.

TBF Devries also looked good after one drive, and hulk always did well as a super sub

Everyone is willing to risk more when there is more at stake

Also he has been driving the sim pretty consistently, so he has that benefit as well

Let's hope he can deliver under pressure like the good old days

[–] calamitycastle@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Hulk is still doing well tbf, having a great season all things considered

[–] CataclysmZA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

The tyre testing is likely also driving to a delta, so it's possible that Red Bull sees Daniel's consistency and ability to keep to a delta and extrapolate what he'd do at full speed including his sim performance.

Wouldn't be a wise choice for Charles unless he is very confident that he can be faster than Max on average - it would be a better bet to stay at a big team that is fully behind him. I think this is why Lando turned down Red Bull repeatedly.

Also don't think this is a good choice for Red Bull - they need a Hamilton-Bottas lineup and not Hamilton-Rosberg lineup. It's too risky unless you have the best car by a large margin, and with the cost cap and aero restrictions Red Bull can't be absolutely sure that their car will have this much of a clear advantage in the next two seasons.

I was thinking about that second seat and the ideal driver. I think they need a Hulk or Magnussen for that position. And then it struck me like a bolt of lightning, there is an ideal second driver on the grid, one who has proven his worth many times as a factor to clinch WCC and help the #1 driver. His name is Bottas!

How about RB hires Bottas for that second seat?

I'd much rather see Piastri join Red Bull in 2025. Leclerc is a good driver and can put on some great driving, but I think he's just a little too inconsistent.
