Looking for good games for Android. By good, I mean a game with a story, no ads or in-app purchases. I'm okay with paying for it, but I'm looking for a good experience. The game should be story-based, as in it has an ending, not an infinite game. Any recommendations?

Peglin. Peglin all the way. Nevermind, you want something with story.

Wayward Souls. Nice top-down roguelike with excellent controls and a bit of story you reveal as you explore the dungeons.

If you have an older version of android, newer version won't let you download it

Ah. I have the APK from a Humble Bundle a few years ago. Still works fine on my Galaxy S22 which is using the latest Android version. Looks like it's just the Google Play store being a bit picky. But if you can find the APK it's an awesome game.

Final fantasy tactics war of the lions, the dragon quest games, really anything square Enix.

I found the controls a little awkward for the dragon quests, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. Fantastic rpgs.

It's one of the main reasons I got a clamp controller.

It's honestly incredible that this exists. I'll have to put the on the wish list.

Knights of The Old Republic 2 is an absolutely top tier old school RPG. Not sure if the port is good, but it exists.

If you have Netflix, the people who made Alto's Adventure made a gliding game called Laya's Horizon: https://layashorizon.com/ that's free with a Netflix account.

Polytopia. It isn't a story driven game, but each game has an ending. There are no ads. The game is free. You can choose to unlock a few different species for $1 each if you want to, but it's not required for gameplay and those species remained locked until you unlock them (meaning you're not at a disadvantage by not having them). It's an amazing game if you enjoy turn based strategy games like Civilization.

Unless they decide to remove it from the play store, reupload, and require you to purchase it again in order to play it.

Fuck atari.

It doesn't appear to support the current version of Android

Slice & dice. You can get it on itch.io and download to PC and mobile. It's like 7 bucks and Ive put in dozens of hours already.

[–] Cosmic_Frog@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

No story, but I just found knotwords and it's pretty good.

[–] barret907k@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Ticket to Ride is fun to play on mobile with CPUs or with Friends. One time purchase per game board.

Doors games are fun puzzle games. IAP to unlock levels

Knotwords is a fun wordle/crossword puzzle type game. Subscription or one time purchase.

Night of the Full Moon. Slay the Spire esque game with multiple IAPs to unlock new characters/ Remove ADS(Which I would recommend) but you can try for free.

Rust port of the cave story if you don't already know

("Cave Story is considered by many as the quintessential indie game because of its one-person development team and influence on the video gaming world.")

Dicey dungeon

Also you can block in-app ads with stuffs like Adaway if you don't already know. There are some good games ported in android with shit tons of ads

You can also play indie rpg maker games, haven't played it much but Grimm's hollow got a good reputation, I recommend it. You can play this with Easyrpg, But you can find more free stuffs made with rpg maker and run it with Joiplay, MaldiVes etc.

Because you said you are willing to pay There are some good paid indie games here.

If you want something short and sweet, Monument Valley 1 + 2 are both gorgeous and fun. I also had a lot of fun with Sword and Sworcery
