I have one of that era! Which is cool!

But my Novacustom 11th Gen Intel Laptop just works for modern stuff.

Question: if a Linux distro already installs grub, why would I want something like this?

Grub is a bootloader, not the firmware/BIOS which is used to initialize the hardware

If I‘m not totally mistaken, libreboot is about you getting more control over your machine, ie disabling intel management engine.
