Got banned from torrent leech after uninstalling theyr broken cracked softwares that i couldnt manage to run properly, dropping my ratio above 0.4... that's a shame, my qbittorrent ratio is 5 and i quite seed anything untill i need more space on the drives. Any (free of course) alternatives ?

Lmao its so easy to keep a good ratio on TL most of the site is freeleech. If you can't keep a ratio there youll have much harder time on better trackers.

Either you need to upgrade your hard drives to seed longer or you need to actually seed longer. You're not going to survive at any private trackers if you keep removing torrents before meeting the tracker's seed criteria.

Re: Torrentleech they'll re-open signups again, you could just wait until then & give it another go.

There are other general private trackers just not sure what to recommend that is currently open registration right now. Keep an eye on opensignups@lemmy.ml and https://opentrackers.org/ you might catch something open for signup.

EDIT: Maybe DigitalCore? Not a member there but they are a general tracker and https://opentrackers.org/ lists them as open signup right now.

Some of you need to embrace Usenet. Never have to worries about power tripping admins on Torrent sites.

You need a Usenet provider, an indexer, and a Usenet downloading App.

I've been using Usenet Hosting for a long time now and haven't had any problems with them. Indexers are bit harder to come by. I think Drunkenslug is the go to these days, not sure about others.

You know.. that's not a bad idea, I just need a general tracker for dumb stuff that's now allowed on my niche trackers such as cams, Usenet would be perfect for that.. time to go down the rabbit hole and figure it all out again lol

[–] yoichi@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just a heads up that you probably shouldn't install games/software from usenet. Pretty much anyone can upload anything they want to an indexer, and it's usually the same thing that gets mirrored to other indexers as well. For movies/tv this generally doesn't end up to be a problem but for anything you execute it could be dangerous

For software I recommend you sign up to m0nkrus and for games you can either be safe with fitgirl-repacks.site or find a way into GazelleGames

[–] BitterSweet@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 year ago

Getting into GGn might be tricky, but it’s definitely worth it and plenty of FL. Also very active even some obscure content gets regular seeders.

For software, maybe add DigitalCore to that list. It’s better to use a site dedicated to software (like m0nkrus :3) then something like a general tracker with loose upload rules.

Is Usenet free? I was under the impression that there is a monthly fee attached to it

[–] tal@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Strictly-speaking, Usenet doesn't have to be commercial, but while it was once typical for ISPs, universities, and other institutions to bundle Usenet service, now it typically is not, and so for most people, commercial Usenet access is really the only realistic alternative.

[–] jws_shadotak@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's a monthly fee but it's not much. I'm on a $20/yr plan from Newshosting.

[–] CoffeeDart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Oh damn, I didn't know it wast that cheap. Do you get access to everything with that? Like apart from movies and TV, does it also have like niche software, obscure movies or lesser known books and such ? Also, what about hosting? In the past I had a good seedbox/VPS that I was paying $20/month for that I could use to maintain ratio on private trackers as well as host my own plex server. Would I have to spend more on my own server in addition to Usenet or is streaming available for Usenet?

[–] yoichi@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

You would still need a server to host your Plex. Usenet is just the source of your files. You would use a downloader like SABnzbd to download and unpack your files. You can then point Plex to those files if you wanna access them on your Plex.

The only thing that changes when you switch from torrent to usenet is how the files are downloaded. The same way you can torrent at home, you can also download from usenet at home. It's just that if you have a server, you can offload all the downloading and unpacking to the server, and you can also use Plex to share it with your friends, etc.

[–] jws_shadotak@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Sometimes, but it's hit or miss.

There's no hosting fees. You don't seed. You just download.

I dunno about streaming but downloads are wicked fast. My movies are usually up on Plex about 10 mins after I request them.

[–] JasSmith@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

The cost is nominal and very much worth it compared to grinding private indexers and navigating their stupid rules.

[–] Awwab@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What software? I have had a torrentleech account for years and never had to install any software other than my torrent client.

[–] Skyhighatrist@beehaw.org 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think what they mean is they downloaded some cracked software, couldn't get them to run and deleted them. Once they deleted it they were obviously no longer seeding them, and their ratio got them banned.

[–] CoffeeDart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yea they probably downloaded the rar torrent

[–] SmokeFree@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Free?

Use qbittorrent search plugins (don't use solidtorrents because I got a crypto miner malware 3 years ago from 4k downloader ) use it at your own risk https://github.com/qbittorrent/search-plugins/wiki/Unofficial-search-plugins

[–] brickfrog@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 year ago

don’t use solidtorrents

SolidTorrents / BitSearch are great sites for finding torrents, just keep in mind they use a DHT crawler to find and index random torrents found via the bittorrent DHT network. None of those torrents are being verified as virus/malware free. This is true of all public torrent indexers that use a DHT crawler.

Probably shouldn't download binaries/executables/installers via public torrents but they're usually fine for media file types.

[–] CoffeeDart@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Yea I agree with you there. At that point though, I'll advice op to just get going with 1337x or torrentfreak or like any other good public trackers

[–] zebus@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Man the general trackers are such a shit show. Back in the day I had my TL ratio drop randomly and I logged in just to see there were a bunch of downloads logged to my account that weren't me. Went in their IRC to point it out their shit was fucked and they got all defensive and tried to make it seem like I was trying to pull something malicious on them. I just quit the site out of spite after that and went inactive.

Then I joined IPT which is sketch af, but then one day I just logged in to find my account was deleted and they wanted money or some shit to get a new one, so naturally I was outta there.

.. Now I just dont have a general tracker.. I guess I should be paying attention to the suggestions here too lol

PS
I miss SCC

[–] CosmicApe@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Interesting, I've had an account with IPT for almost 12 years now and I've had no problems at all. What makes you say it's sketchy?

[–] zebus@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)
  • Owner and staff known to be questionable assholes
  • They did questionable stuff to try and make it to the top like astroturfing with fake accounts and stealing peers from other trackers
  • They were one of first to start charging for signups
  • The fact they state that they delete accounts and your only option is to make a new one
  • Around the time they started charging a lot of people like myself found our accounts mysteriously gone and them wanting us to pay to get on the site again (I remember being pissed and going to reddit to complain and reading similar stories there)
  • Basically the site is really scummy and did whatever they had to do to become big so that they could make money and grift the community and is not inline with the principals most other private tracker communities promote.
  • IPT Browser..
  • They had a $5/ticket raffle that it's believed the winners were fake IPT accounts

Honestly, I could probably keep this up all day if I kept thinking about it but imma stop here.

[–] yoichi@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 year ago

You should join FileList, easily the best general tracker out there. Tons of seeders and tons of content

[–] Pulp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

They will probably reopen again within a few months.

[–] sheepcoin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

You should really get a cheap seedbox for a month or so to build your ratio up. Pulsed Media offers a month for less than a dollar I believe.

[–] BrikoX@vlemmy.net 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

IPTorrents or FileList are great general trackers that both have software. FileList has a very good retention of old uploads.

[–] CoffeeDart@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What's shady about them? Seems fine...

[–] BrikoX@vlemmy.net 2 points 1 year ago

Don't disagree, but they have plenty of content and if you don't engage with anyone, it's fine.
