A nice place to discuss rumors, happenings, innovations, and challenges in the technology sphere. We also welcome discussions on the intersections of technology and society. If it’s technological news or discussion of technology, it probably belongs here.

Remember the overriding ethos on Beehaw: Be(e) Nice. Each user you encounter here is a person, and should be treated with kindness (even if they’re wrong, or use a Linux distro you don’t like). Personal attacks will not be tolerated.

As quoted from the linked post.

It looks like you’re part of one of our experiments. The logged-in mobile web experience is currently unavailable for a portion of users. To access the site you can log on via desktop, the mobile apps, or wait for the experiment to conclude.

This is separate from the API issue. This will actually BLOCK you from even viewing reddit on your phone without using the official app.

A month ago. Well that should of been a red flag. Honestly, it has been a terrible experience forever with soft blocks everywhere.

Wow. Do they even understand how this looks????

That’s pretty crazy. Now I’m wondering how easy it is to change a user agent on iOS with either Firefox or Safari.

Stop talking to each other and start buying things!

They really decided to sink the boat. Such foolish level of unfriendliness to users was not seen since the time Facebook purposefully slowed their app to see how much its public was addicted.

I'd suggest them to disable inbox and chat in their app. They should make an additional app like Facebook has, they can call it Reddit Messenger.

Just deleted the reddit app. Looks like that's gonna turn out to be a great decision as they continually make it worse.

"Lets promote going IPO by blocking everyone access!" The thought process......

Wow. I usually only used Reddit for one community, and so I’d usually just log in through my mobile browser. It also makes a lot of the information that’s harder to find through the sea of ads on Google less accessible.

Well thats concerning. Hope the revenue they get from API access and forcing ads will offset the communities they are pushing away. Im about to delete my reddit account over this. Lets hope lemmy can gain traction.
