Could be Pakistani. The most Indian-hating person I ever met was a Pakistani guy.

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 81 points 1 year ago (1 children)

India and Pakistan have a bit of a history

[–] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 55 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Understatement of the century ☝️

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Hahahaha that’s akin to “Israelites and Palestinians have been in a bit of a disagreement for a few years now.”

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 15 points 1 year ago

They haven't always seen eye to eye, let's put it that way

Honestly it's either or. I knew a couple of guys back in uni, one Indian the other Pakistani and they were really tight. Maybe it's just the narrow minded bigots who blindly hate another because of political history rather than treat them as an individual.

Also knew an Israeli and a Palestinian (weren't tight as such but were friendly with each other).

[–] malijaffri@feddit.ch 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Honestly, it's a love-hate relationship. There's nobody they hate more than the other, at the same time there's nobody who understands them better than the other.

Even then, the hate is mostly political. It's politically beneficial to both countries to keep the hate flowing.

Source: am Pakistani.

Anon actually so racist can't tell Indians apart from Pakistanis

[–] HiddenLayer5@lemmy.ml 28 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Which, the British Empire didn't particularly give a shit about telling them apart when they drew the new "independent" borders in South Asia either. Tons of current problems in the region can be traced back to British colonialism and their divide and conquer strategy, surprise surprise.

Same story for Africa and the Middle East

[–] Daxtron2@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

Nah bro but they both got great food and Im a programmer so I basically am

[–] tomi000@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

I dont think that applies only to racist people

[–] Stuka@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

When you don't know that they are ethnically the same people....

[–] dudinax@programming.dev 71 points 1 year ago (14 children)

I used to work with this lifted-truck literally red-necked red neck. He kept going on about how hot his girl was, and how white she was.

One day he shows me her picture, and she was indeed a very hot dark skinned Latina. Some people are just in denial.

I mean, we're on Lemmy, every American here hates America

[–] HiddenLayer5@lemmy.ml 23 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

America the country though. Which is quite different from hating an ethnic group.

[–] sukhmel@programming.dev 4 points 1 year ago

Didn't occur to me right away but you're right. On the other hand, if they live in India then most of the people who ever wronged them would also be from India (which is also not an ethnic group as pointed out)

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why did you bold the "a" at the end of America?

[–] Zarmeck@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago

Probably to emphasize the difference with "Americans".

[–] TheSanSabaSongbird@lemdro.id 7 points 1 year ago

I don't, but I'm not very popular around here either. My country is far from ideal, but I still mostly like it.

I don't hate America, I just wish we could be better. Hate takes too much energy

I have an Asian buddy that rages over how bad Asian drivers are and even gives them the fingers pulling his eyes even more closed move while passing them. I don't go anywhere in a car with him anymore... Come to think of it I rarely see him now...

[–] Xanthrax@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is it because you're pulling your eyes closed?

[–] Baines@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

nah he just blends into the background of other asians he hangs out with

[–] BolexForSoup@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

Sounds like a great guy lmao

[–] ShitOnABrick@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Asian driver roadrages over other Asian drivers driving around

Ah I see your friend is a man of culture congrats

[–] peanuts4life@beehaw.org 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I feel like this phenomenon should have a catchy name, like: "No one hates Scotsmen more than Scotsmen."

[–] Godort@lemm.ee 23 points 1 year ago

Damn Scots! They ruined Scotland!

[–] blindbunny@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's called "uncle ruckus" In my circles.

[–] peanuts4life@beehaw.org 4 points 1 year ago

Omg, I forgot about that character 😅

[–] Aggravationstation@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago

Or possibly Pakistani. That whole hate your neighbour thing.

[–] spudwart@spudwart.com 13 points 1 year ago

Have you met Americans?

Source: I'm an American.

[–] notnotdying@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago
[–] hakase@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

It's like Americans on lemmy!

[–] nyandere@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's okay to hate your own culture. Plenty of reasons for Indians to hate India, just like there are plenty of reasons for Russians to hate Russia.

[–] joel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Or they could be from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka...

Familiarity breeds contempt

[–] puncmunc@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

As mentioned in the thread, self-hatred or the guy being Pakistani are two likely explanations. Maybe a third scenario could be he was testing if Anon was racist against Indians as well before presenting himself.
