starting from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US

Why don't they just list the date (or even the 'available on store' date) for each device? It would be a lot simpler for people instead of having to hunt for the info themselves

I went to check as I remember that Google Support had a handy table with dates, but they seemingly removed it in favor of this stupid wording ๐Ÿ™„

Maybe the management hasn't decided on the exact promises they're willing to make? Also there's two years left before it becomes important, while previously there was always a generation going out of support within a year.
