The teenager who was trying to pick up his brothers had gone to the wrong Kansas City address in April, when homeowner Andrew Lester opened fire on him through the door.

Lester had told police he was afraid when he pulled the trigger.

Lester has been charged by prosecutors with felony first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He's pleaded not guilty to all charges.

I hope the man that shot him has all the force of the law against him and ends up in prison for a very long time. Also, this is the second story I saw today in which someone shot someone though the door. Anyone else see this pattern?

The guy is 84. No matter what sentence he gets, it won't be a long time.

We really need to tone down the fear mongering that is making so many people afraid to the point that they will kill in "wrong place" situations.

Apparently USA can’t legislate against stochastic terrorism, because that doesn’t qualify as shouting “fire!” ina crowded theater.

For the same reason republicans get defensive when people talk about holding Nazis accountable.

A lot of US states having those blanked "stand your ground" laws does not help, which already comes on top of the completely idiotic gun laws. In Germany any sort of self defense must be proportionate to the actual threat. Even if you get physically attacked you aren't allowed to just murder the attacker. And shooting someone would open up a whole another batch of questions, since guns are so strictly regulated (including their storage). Owning a gun + license for self defense reasons is typically very rare and more something for important people.

my wifes father had a bunch of guns and as he got older even she was worried she would get shot going over there but even in my liberal state there is no max age for guns.
