Western liberals are indoctrinated into thinking that their system is flawed but a few reforms away from an idyllic utopia primarily because they do not give a shit about the Global South I think. They don't know or care how wanting the life was/is of basic necessities in the poorest strata of the global south under colonialism or neoliberal austerity. They have come up with bullshit numbers like multi-dimensional poverty index, where having a smartphone somehow makes up for not being able to see a doctor.

Multi party liberal democracies fail to provide their voters 2200 calories per day to eat without robbing formerly colonised countries while single party "freedom index" deficient autocracies at least give a shit about that and in many cases succeed.

It's also the whole capitalist realism thing. Like yeah our system sucks, but nothing better is possible so just try and make the best of it.

Capitalist realism also stems from eurocentricism. It's true that both eurocentrcism and capitalist realism are products of relentless propaganda but most westerners who don't deny the humanity of the periphery are more likely to see how the various socialist experiments work and how so many of the flaws can be traced back to a constant fight for survival against the relentless onslaught from the imperial powers.

Even Mark Fisher in the Capitalist Realism book wrote some bullshit about "soviet bureaucracy". I don't remember exactly but it had something to do with the education system in England so it was completely out of the left field.
