Europe will receive the last Russian gas sent via Ukraine’s pipelines in the early hours of the new year as the continent braces for a plunge in temperatures that could hasten the drain on gas reserves.

The Russian state energy company, Gazprom, is expected to cut off its exports to Europe through Ukraine’s pipelines on New Year’s Day after a gas transit deal struck between the countries five years ago comes to an end overnight.

In the absence of an 11th-hour deal, the halt will mark a historic shift after the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion of its neighbour in early 2022. Russia was once the continent’s biggest supplier of gas but it has lost almost all of its EU customers since the war began, as buyers across central Europe have turned to the US, Norway and Qatar for their supplies.

💥 Historic strike - GUR soldiers destroyed an air target for the first time in the world using the Magura V5 naval drone

🫡 On December 31, 2024, soldiers of the special unit of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine “Group 13” for the first time in history hit an air target using a Magura V5 naval strike drone equipped with missile weapons.

✔️ During the battle in the Black Sea near Cape Tarkhankut in temporarily occupied Crimea, a Russian Mi-8 helicopter was destroyed by the use of R-73 “SeeDragon” missiles.

❗️ Another similar enemy helicopter was hit by fire and was able to reach its base airfield.

Azovstal Defender Artur Niverchuk spent 884 days in Russian captivity. He returned in a prisoner exchange in October 2024, and was finally able to come to his hometown of Zdolbuniv, Rivne region after rehabilitation and treatment.

A large crowd gathered to welcome him home. People sang the Ukrainian anthem and Christmas carols for Artur.

The day before, on December 30, Lgov in the Kursk region was attacked by at least 6 Storm Shadow missiles, ASTRA found out. Several missiles hit a building used by Russian military personnel on Sverdlova Street, 1. As a result of the hit, 8 servicemen died on the spot, and another 22 were hospitalized. One civilian was also wounded.

One of the missiles fell into the courtyard of a residential building on Franko Street without detonating. It was destroyed today. The acting governor reported a damaged house and an injured civilian.

Footage is being published online, allegedly from the site of the attack. There is no confirmation of the authenticity of the footage yet.
