I want to take a moment of recognition. We’ve come a long way from debating about balloons and historical sightings.

Despite still debating about anecdotes, this is real, and this is now. We have a unique time advantage on background information before the rest of the world gets here.

I always like visiting this place because it's full of interesting anecdotes and funny comments. I've never been convinced in any direction but I like gathering data and am a fan of science and aerospace.

It can be a wild place, but this week is the first one where I felt some gravity here. Other than congress.

Something is going on, and this community is in a unique position to have a lot of background information before the rest of the public does. I hope you guys have been realizing this. This current moment is huge and it seems like someone has made a move.

Here’s my theory: I think whatever entity or ET society is projecting these drones is forcing disclosure. Or at the very least, forcing humans to wake up a bit and look up... and ask some serious questions to our local and federal government.

We’ve been procrastinating on the dissemination of information that would slowly inform the public about the existence of someone else out there… of which parts of the government has known for at 70 years.

Our lack of initiative is now a looming social crisis caused by our government‘s resistance in addressing this in the public eye.

They’ve been pretending it doesn’t exist, pushing it down the road, and this particular situation is revealing the weakness of that strategy. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so potentially destabilizing.

The craft exhibit all the hallmarks of UAP: absurdity, aloofness, technology we don’t understand, almost a jokester quality.

If this was a rival nation, it would extremely concern me because it’s basically saying that we’re about to be bombed. If it is UAP, it gives me more hope.

I personally don’t think any rival nation has the funds to do this kind of operation. I also think that at least one would have malfunctioned if it was Chinese.

This demonstration by the UAP is incredibly aggressive damn near in NYC, and I think it’s basically like an overwhelming show force against whoever is keeping the secrets.

If anything, this seems like an information attack instead of a physical one. And that information could turn us against the government. I’m personally more weary of people starting to panic and riot than UAP.

Somebody is playing 4D chess and I think they’re winning.

I do hope we can get more information as citizens because I think it's irresponsible and I've always thought since the Congress hearings that it's irresponsible that we're not telling about this stuff.

I have no idea who could be in control of these things, but I do believe that they're not human at least not in a way that they grew up in our time period.

Part of me wants to say it's spiritually enlightening and beautiful, because this is some sort of contact, but I also recognize that not every society out there will be benevolent. In fact, they might be malevolent or indifferent.

I would assume that there's some type of alliance or NATO out there and that they generally have to follow rules as well, but NATO doesn't stop our nations from doing fucked up things, and so the same could happen here.

I'm aware of mutilations and abductions, and though who knows who's to blame for them, those don't seem like nice things to do to people.

I think it's irresponsible to continue lying to the public about a potentially dangerous third-party that we have known about for a while. And sure, that information could cause chaos, but not as much chaos as it unfolding on its own, which it seems to be doing now.

This is a huge development. I think we should start to prepare for a new era. It might not come next week, but something is clearly coming. I don't think we have full control over the story anymore, but I think as people we should try our best.

Love your family, enjoy the rest of the year. Things might not be the same soon and I have no idea what that will bring.

“There's been a lot of discussion on this and other subreddits lately about the possibility that the drone sightings and events in New Jersey can be summed up as nothing more than "Mass Hysteria".

In this thread, I want to discuss the evidence that this is not simply a case of mass hysteria and open a discussion on the subject.

This goes hand in hand with many of the videos posted here and on /UFOs, for example, being dismissed as commercial airplanes, helicopters, etc. This second part - the idea that many videos uploaded show only regular aircraft - is part of the "Mass Hysteria" conversation, but also could be happening even if there are actually "unusual drones" being sighted/recorded. For this reason, I hope that we can separate the ideas that 1.) This is all mass hysteria, and 2.) Some of the uploaded videos show ordinary aircraft.

I think it is likely that some or many of the uploaded videos do show helicopters or other regular aircraft, but I think there is also enough evidence to suggest something is actually going on, that unusual drones have been spotted, and that this isn't a case of mass hysteria.

I think the main reason we can rule out mass hysteria in this case - in my opinion - is that there have been so many instances of officials / authorities discussing this issue. I want to present some of that evidence here as a means of gathering it all in one place so people can have this discussion without having to scour many different sources.

This post is an effort to debunk the idea that mass hysteria is the cause of all of this and cite evidence to back this claim.

1.) The FBI has acknowledged the issue and requested information / photos from civilians.

This alone does not rule out mass hysteria, as this action could be taken as a means of calming or reacting to mass hysteria, but it should be considered, at least, that this happened very early in the timeline of all of this. Most people hadn't started paying much attention and most news outlets hadn't covered it much at all - so the early nature of this may give more credence to this not being a reaction to mass hysteria itself.

including stating that they have seen the drones - which is different than stating that residents have reported seeing drones, especially in considering the mass hysteria idea.

The parts that stand out as it pertains to the mass hysteria discussion are:

"Please be mindful that not all low flying aircraft are drones as we have the Morristown Municipal Airport, on our western border, and Newark International Airport in close proximity." - An acknowledgement that not everything everyone sees is a drone.

Disclaimer: There's a lot of information and stories swirling around so its tough to know which ones to believe. My thoughts are just based on the things I've heard but have no way of verifying as true.

I don't think its China. It would be an incredibly bold and unsophisticated move for them to do something like this. I read some theories that suggest the motivation to be a 'show of force'. This sounds reckless and unnecessary. Also there's reports of the drones taking a 'break' on Thanksgiving. This would suggest that they were celebrating an American Holiday.

This is why I think they're ours. But there's a few things that are odd. I read some people suggest that we're running some sort of test to test our readiness against the threat of drones or testing the drones themselves. Why test these in populated areas of New Jersey? Also why the secrecy if we're simply just testing? Unless the test is to observe the impact this secrecy on civilians. But why do this?

My theory is that we are looking for something that requires urgency which is why we're using the drones in such a non discrete manner yet requires secrecy and therefore the lack of communication to even local law enforcement. But here's the kicker. I don't think we're the only ones. I think that this may be a global effort. This is why we see the drones globally. I think there may be parts of the international community that operate in a level of secrecy with regards to the phenomenon. This coalition of international SAPs may be working in concert to locate something.

As to what they are looking for? We may be detecting something but are unable to completely locate the source. It may be something related to the phenomenon that requires urgency on a global scale. The drones are being used to try and find whatever it is we're detecting.

My reasoning breaks down like this:

The reason why the drones are car sized is because its military. The reason why no official word has come out is because it needs to be held from the public so as not to cause panic. The reason why they're running them every night without any level of discretion is because of the urgency. The reason why its global is because multiple countries are unified and involved in this search. I know this last part seems a little far fetched as something has to be pretty big in order to create a common goal amongst all of us. But imagine what that could be. It would probably be pretty terrifying.

That's my theory. Let me know why I'm wrong!

Does anyone actually believe that these are actually unknown to our military? Just a bunch of slow, regular, massive drones that we just "can't do anything about" in a heavily populated part of New Jersey?

Why are we even talking about this in this subreddit? It's also like journalistic malpractice that nobody has asked straight up questions like:

1. If the aren't ours, why haven't they been shot down or disabled?
2. Where are they refueling from?
3. Can the Pentagon make a clear statement about them?
4. Are these just our own drones/planes, and why can't you make that clear?

Providing my two cents:

Location: Somerset/Morris County NJ Dates: 12/5-8 Time: 6PM - 9PM

Equipment: 8” SCT w/ Canon 5D + DJI Mini 3 + FlightRadar24

Capabilities: Amateur Astrophotographer. Well versed in identifying celestial objects (planets, stars, star clusters, meteors, etc.) and man-made objects (satellites, rockets, space station, planes, helicopters)

Limited Capabilities: Identifying specific types of atmosphere based man-made objects. Particularly plans, helicopters, and commercial/consumer drones based on lighting and light patterns.

Observations:

12/5:

Preliminary observation, sight only. No equipment with the exception of FlightRadar24. Attempted to identify anomalous activities such as non-listed air traffic or anomalous aerial activity (movement, speed, acceleration).

Result: Numerous unlisted craft flying at unidentifiable heights. Tracked up to 5 craft in addition to listed air traffic. All non-listed craft appeared to not deviate from heading at any point. Craft were often independent but did occur in pairs following same heading and speed. No sound was detected, although air traffic in area can be quite persistent and could have washed out any discernible sounds.

12/6:

Prepared scope for visual observation and capture.

Result: Cloudy skies impaired visibility. Distance viewing was limited due to low cloud ceiling. Cloud ceiling estimate at about 1000ft. No craft were observed. Concluded that craft were likely above cloud ceiling and flying greater than 1000ft.

12/7:

Prepared scope and drone for visual observation and capture.

Result: Same as 12/6. Low clouds impaired most visual.

12/8:

Prepared scope and drone for visual observation and capture.

Result: Similar visual observation as 12/5. 2 to 5 untracked craft appearing in the sky at random intervals. Was not able to identify any discernible patterns including but not limited to: speed, heading, direction, height, light sequences. Certain craft appeared to be closer than others. I deduced this based on their brightness. The brighter the closer, the dimmer the further. Brighter craft also moved faster, which furthered my opinion that they were closer due to speed they traveled relative to their dimmer counterparts.

Unfortunately I was unable to track or capture these objects with the scope. There are two reasons for this.

1. The craft that appeared to be closer moved too fast to track. Approximately 30 degrees in about 5 to 7 seconds. I’ve personally tried to hand track the Space Station before and I’ve only been able to capture a glimmer. I’ve also hand tracked planes at cruising altitude with relative success.
2. The slower moving craft were too distance to capture anything but their lights. No shape was discernible. Image capture was fruitless due to length of exposure required even at high ISO (128000).

The drone proved just as problematic. As a recreationally pilot I am only allowed to fly to 120m. I left drone airborne for approximately 20 minutes. Each time I identified an object, the camera on the DJI failed to pick it up. It easily captured the light from Venus, Saturn, and the lower flying (5000ft altitude) planes but struggled to capture the light from planes at cruising altitude and the craft. I assume this is because of the quality of the camera on the wide angle of the lens.

Conclusion: I hope this information helps the community seek other techniques or provide recommendations on how to best visually capture these objects. It’s unfortunate that with my equipment I couldn’t yield better results. All in all, visual observation coupled with FlightRadar24 and a solid sense of the heavens allows me to confidently say there is something up there. The objects weren’t as anomalous as I hoped, but they are up there doing something.

I’ll continue my efforts for a few more days in hopes of capturing something closer and brighter.
