Hello, I originally created an app named Xed-Editor, but I later found out that a text editor in Linux Mint already uses the same name. To avoid any confusion, I decided to change the name to Karbon. However, after using the name Karbon for more than four months, I realized that it is already being used by many Android apps, which might make it less unique. Given this, I’m looking for suggestions for a new name that is distinctive and stands out. Could you help me come up with a better name?

Due to VPN shill bots, we have banned all VPN suggestions or requests. I suggest Mullvad or ProtonVPN. Free VPNs and random companies cannot be trusted. If you see anything violating this rule please report it and we will remove it.

I'm relatively new to FOSS apps and have been absolutely astounded by the quality of apps I've found. I'm making a list of the essential apps every enthusiast should look at.

What would be on your list?

Mine would include Antennapod and Tasks.org which I love. There's a few others that I'm wary of mentioning (not certain they are FOSS).

Android Users: Defend Your Digital Freedom! 🔓

Google's Play Integrity is systematically discriminating against custom Operating System users by blocking essential apps and services, such as banking and government. This isn't just about security restrictions—it's about fundamental user rights, monopolistic tactics and privacy concerns (DroidGuard, at the base of Play Integrity, collects a lot of data).

Our Goals:

  • Document Google's restrictive practices
  • Possibly take legal action about Digital Markets Act violations with the help of our lawyers
  • Show how much this problem is important to the European Union.

Android Integrity Alliance is fighting back. We need your support to:

  • Collect evidence
  • Sign our petition
  • Raise awareness about device ownership rights

If you have any skills like:

  • Graphic design
  • Development
  • Law knowledge
  • Public relations

Contact us! We wanna work with you! Even if your skill is not included here.

United, we can push back against corporate control of your devices.

We are working on registering as a proper non-profit organization. Our efforts won't stop with the petition.

I have updated automod rules to no longer report comments containing non-FOSS services to the mod queue because of the high volume of false positives. Please report any non-FOSS apps you see. Additionally, any automod comment can now be removed automatically with too many reports, though it will be sent to mods for review. Some comments may also be removed at a report threshold.

Anybody know of any good apps for viewing Reddit? I've heard Stealth and Infinity be mentioned before but Infinity wanted money and I heard some people mention something about having to use Revanced which I am not going to install. I just want FOSS only and bonus for not having to log-in. Anyone tried Stealth? Any other good suggestions?

I notice that Openboard keyboard has disappeared from f-droid. I've found it on GitHub but wondered if it was removed for a particular reason?

Disappointed as it was my favourite keyboard by miles.

Omnivore is closing down. Do you guys know any alternative that doesn't need to be self hosted?

For those who don't know, Omnivore is a FOSS alternative to Pocket, an app to save links and annotate them. I just really need to save the links for later reading, no need for editing or highlighting in my case.

Will it take my contacts, phone history and othe stiff?r

It is similar to shizuku, but instead of giving shell permissions it gives apps deviceOwner permissions.Yet, i only know 3 apps that use it. It would be pretty cool to see a deviceOwner file manager or something like that! Yes, dhizuku is also on f-droid and open source.

It was definitely the best FOSS money tracker. Big loss for me, now I have to figure out how to export my data to another app.

Hi everyone, Some people are now a bit worried about reproductive rights after the selection. I just want to recommend my own developed app Mensinator. Its a private period tracker where all data stays on your phone. Nothing is sent anywhere, no one gets your data and there is no registration required. No personal data is collected externally what so ever!

The app is free with no ads. It's available in ten languages right now and is in active development. It's an open source project so code is available on github and everyone who wants to contribute are welcome to do so.

Don't give American corporations such as Flo access to your sensitive data. What happens if they get hacked or regulated to give other people access. When "they" can see that you are late on your period... No thanks.

App is available on GooglePlay and FDroid.

I've been a long time user of ViMusic. The last few months I've been unable to play albums (the album never loads) and now it seems i can't play certain songs either.

I recently tried the suggested alternative RiMusic, but all songs return an error stating "Song cannot be played"

I think YouTube is blocking third party apps from accessing content.

That being said if anyone knows a working solution / alternative please let me know.

Edit: Harmony music seems to work with no issues.

I honestly don't even care about the whole open source part, and I am willing to pay for good apps.

But even so, FOSS apps are often times the only viable option for me these days because they're usually spared from all the BS most playstore apps are riddled with.

Stuff like overpriced subscriptions, massive amounts of ads, 'features' like Ai integration, dubious permissions like calculators that want to make phone calls, forced account creation, pointless social media integration, EULAs that signs over your firstborn, psychological manipulation to literally get you addicted to an app and so on.

The playstore itself isn't exactly a well-designed, either.

When looking for an app, I would often go through like 10 apps on the playstore, and every last one of them would be utterly unusable for one reason or another, even the ones with 5-star ratings.

These days, I check what F-droid & co got to offer before I even consider opening the playstore...

Hello, new to this subreddit.

I have my preferences for essential apps, but when I get bored I like to look for apps that have cool, interesting, or fun features. A good example is FindMyDevice which I just came across while browsing the fdroid catalogue. Any recommendations for this sort of thing?

You're not unique, they are NOT WORKING FOR EVERYONE, so please stop spamming the subreddit with these threads, or go post on their respective GitHubs.

@u/KatieTSO please either sticky this post or make a different one about this issue, it's getting seriously annoying.
