Now that Mull is discontinued and Fennec F-Droid may be too (or at least get slower updates, slower than they have already been sometimes), what's the best option?

I have heard that Iceraven is good, but that it has non-FOSS elements. Can anyone please clarify, or link me to information, on what parts exactly are not FOSS? Thanks for reading!

Hey, i just finished debloating my samsung S23 with Universal debloater and some abd commands. I did not get rid of google services but got rid of everything i could except maps and gmail.

Uninstalled chrome and even play store that i replaced with aurora store and f droid and firefox.

The only thing im missing is a keyboard. For now the phone has the default samsung one that i dont like.

Ive always used Gboard that is very good. But for privacy reason i wanted to know if a privacy focused forked version existed ?

Or another completely different keyboard ?

I want the same good typing experience as GBoard, predictive text that learns new words that i use (but just keeping that in the phone storage instead of cloud?).

Also with a swiftkey alternative because i also love using the swiftkey feature.

Thanks !

License - GPL-V3

Hello! Recently, I’ve been building my own free app blocker because I couldn’t find one for Android that I truly trusted.

Features:

  1. App Blocking: Block access to selected apps for better focus.
  2. Partial Blocking: Allow using other features of the app while blocking YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels.
  3. Keyword Blocking: Block custom keywords in browsers. If typed, the website is closed and redirected to another site (with an inbuilt list of adult keywords).
  4. Focus Mode: Block selected apps for a set period or configure it to turn on regularly at specific times.
  5. Cheat Hours: Allow access to specific apps during designated hours each day.
  6. Anti-Uninstall: Prevent uninstallation for a set number of days or require a password for uninstallation.
  7. Scroll Counter: Track the number of Instagram/Facebook Reels, TikToks, and YouTube Shorts you scroll through.
  8. No Spyware and Ad-Free: Completely free from spyware and ads, ensuring a safe experience.
  9. Extremely lightweight with a download size of only 3 mb!

It’s designed to help you manage your screen time and stay focused, without being intrusive. Plus, it’s completely free to use!

With the upcoming discontinuation of DivestOS, I have decided that creating a wiki and forum for FOSS Android discussions could be a good idea. The forum will come later, as it will be harder to moderate. For now, I still suggest use of this subreddit.

The goal of fossdroid.org is simple: to provide a clean and simple way for users to pick good FOSS software for their phones.

It will be built using mdBook, built in Rust.

If anyone has suggestions for this site, please comment below! If you are interested in helping with development of the site or forum, please either comment or send us a modmail!

I’ve been a user of Mull for the past six months and was very surprised to see that it will no longer be maintained. Given the browser’s value, I’m considering forking it to ensure its continuity.

However, this undertaking requires significant dedication, time, and expertise. To make this vision a reality, I’m looking for like-minded individuals with the necessary skills and commitment to join me in this endeavor. If you’re interested in contributing, please reach out.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!

Since the DivestOS developer is also the maintainer of Fennec F-Droid that might be a problem too. See here: . Hence the search for a replacement.

What are the other browser options? I don't see any on the default Fdroid repo.

Thank you and happy holidays.

Edit: For those unaware Mull is being discontinued. The DivestOS developer has discontinued the project which includes all of his apps like Mull. Since he also maintains Fennec Fdroid we don't know for certain the status of that project.

Hey everyone,

As 2024 comes to an end, let’s take a moment to celebrate the awesome Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) apps we’ve been using or discovered this year. Whether it’s for productivity, creativity, privacy, or just something fun, I’d love to hear your favorites!

I use a lot of microsoft office file types (.docx and .pptx) but I do not have a FOSS or FLOSS app for modifying them not just opening/viewing them (I've tried ONLYOFFICE but I never liked it and have looked in LibreOffice viewer). Now I have the only thing: MS Office official proprietary app or nothing. As my last way, I came here to Reddit. Please suggest me some good alternatives.

Thanks in advance.

There is a backend issue for every YT client. Newpipe, along with tons of others are currently not working. Do not post abou these issues, as it will flood the sub for important stuff.

Heartbroken to see that InnerTune app is fully glitching today. It's only playing songs that have been 'liked' or downloaded, the random songs that show up are now showing error.

And yes, I'm already logged in and synced with YT music. Tried logging out and logging back in, restarting the phone multiple times but no luck.

Anyone else facing this issue or found a fix to this?

Thanks in advance!

Edit : it's not playing liked songs too now. Putting the screenshot in the comments
