I have uses the newer OS's of Mac but never the classic series that were numbered.

For those who have used apple computing back in the day, what was it like using it? Was it a lot more snappier and better user interface intuitiveness?

I say this because it always seemed to me that the macintosh operating systems seemed to be more.. "smooth sailing" than Bill's 50/50 BSOD contraptions (Windows ME anyone?)

Obviously things have changed a lot more with newer macos being more fisher priced down in looks but I'd really like to know what you guys thought about OS 8 or 9!

I live in Germany, which by some accounts, is the third largest economy, and we have literally no answer for what is next, economically. Neither in the public nor private sectors. Nobody is investing, nobody is building new things, nobody even knows what to do next. But the story is the same throughout Europe as far as I can see. All industries hope to keep selling the same old shit. But the 3rd world is catching up. They can manufacture goods that are just as good, and for much cheaper. Heck, some can even do it cleaner too, since they have access to cleaner energy sources. But we also have no real 21st century income streams.

It looks to me as though, only the US and China are undertaking really innovative projects.

Is my reading of the situation flawed? I would love to have your input.

I'm looking to replace my tower PC with a mobile option (only strictly for work, no gaming or video editing).

And I've found an online shop that sells ThinkPads: they are selling this FHD (no HDR) i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage used laptop (X1 Gen 6) for 400 usd and I'm wondering if you guys would recommend it.

They offer a 3-month warranty.

They also have a 310usd i5-8350U, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage option, in case this sounds like a better deal (also used and no HDR); and a 345usd i5-8350U, 16GB RAM, 512GB one.

I've looked far and wide and it seems like all shops here sell these at the same price.

This is all in Vietnam and here I cannot use Amazon/eBay etc.

What if there were voice chat channels you could join in a thread to discuss posts? The idea would be to give people a richer way of communicating instead of just typing comments and replies.

Update: I just realized what I really wanted was to have a conversation, so I'm going to get off the internet and actually go talk to people in the real world.

I had a hell of a time trying to figure out how to word the title. What I mean is something that changed in your life for the better and you immediately started underappreciating it.

I got laser eye surgery a couple years ago and immediately got used to it and didn't think about all the minor inconveniences that came with having glasses.

Similarly I bought a curved computer monitor because it seemed neat and after a couple hours it feels so insignificant I stopped really "feeling" anything.

Science is "empirically complete" when it is well funded, all unknowns are constrained in scope, and (n+1) generations of scientists produce no breakthroughs of any kind.

If a hypothetical entity could encompass every aspect of science into reasoning and ground that understanding in every aspect of the events in question, free from bias, what is this epistemological theory?

I've been reading wiki articles on epistemology all afternoon and feel no closer to the answer in the word salad in this space. It appears my favorite LLM's responses reflect a similar understanding. Maybe someone here has a better grasp on the subject?

Anyone got some good recommendations for Peertube channels to watch or even whole instances?

I'm open to suggestions on any and all topics; broaden my mind! I probably have enough tech ones in my feed already though.

EDIT TO ADD: A few people said this wouldn't ever make sense for doctors (privacy laws) or for fixed locations (stores). I should have thought of that.

But what about Uber / bus drivers, or repair people who go into homes? I can imagine a large corporation thinking a cam is a good idea, for their own CYA (not for the customers' or the employees').

For instance, did it go OK to wear sunglasses indoors; or did the eye contact avoidance disappear when using the sign language, only to reappear when using a spoken language; things like that.

In any language, any one of us has certain words or phrases they like to say.

For me, in English, that includes “bedazzled” and “thingamagick” among others.

I'm writing a story and I'm worried that I might inadvertently turn one of my main characters into a Mary Sue. I'd like to know if it's enough to give her the odd flaw or imperfection or if I should be more drastic and make her screw up big time.

a normal shift to me means not having a 30 minute pause, but being constantly moving. If you are lucky, you can pause for 3 minutes and drink coffee or juice when nobody is looking.

Until yesterday I used to have long hair. Due to unusually high tempetures I started having problems with the skin on my head. So, to avoid problems. I shaved it clean and it will remain that way until the skin in treated.

Now that I'm bald, I now know what's it's like. It sucks. My old hair suited me perfectly. It was messy just the right amount, perfect length, made me look different than the rest and handsome as hell. Every girl would look at me where ever I went to. Compliments floating over the air, jealous looks from other men etc. etc. It made me feel powerful.

But most importantly, it suited my personality and clothing. It was perfect! But now it's gone. I hate bald me. I will never look back at this bald version of myself.

It feels weird. I don't feel that bad but still it's disheartening.
