Hello, I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for tools to help with digital detox / digital minimalism.

I struggle with mild impulsivity. Whenever I open my computer I almost automatically open a browser and check social media.

It used to be a problem primarily with Reddit and news sites, but since joining Lemmy my behavior has switched to regularly checking Lemmy.

I'm looking for any tools or advice, whether cognitive-behavioral or technical like browser extensions.

In the past I used the Firefox extension called Redirector to redirect myself from certain subreddits like /r/all to something more benign (I like /r/sewing or /r/books for example), and this intervention helped break up automatic behavior and was a kind of harm reduction: still feeding the impulsivity, but with healthier content.

I was wondering if there is something like Redirector that redirects randomly with some probability (like 20% of the time it redirects to the target you specify).

My blue civic back in 2005 was nicknamed cobalt. "You can take cobalt to pick dad up at the airport". Something I had picked up from Gone in 60 seconds that I found cool (naming cars, not cobalt)

These people had beliefs and worldviews that were so horribly, by today's standards, that calling them fascist would be huge understatement. And they followed through by committing a lot of evil.

Aren't we basically glorifying the Hitlers of centuries past?

I know, historians always say that one should not judge historical figures by contemporary moral standards. But there's a difference between objectively studying history and actually glorifying these figures.

I've been playing around with my home office setup. I have multiple laptops to manage (thanks work) and a handful of personal devices. I would love to stop playing the "does this charging brick put out enough juice for this device" game.

I have:

• 1x 100W Laptop
• 1x 60W Laptop
• 1x 30W Router
• 1x 30W Phone
• 2x raspberry pis

I've been looking at multi-device bricks like this UGREEN Nexode 300W but hoped someone might know of a similar product for less than $170.

Saving a list of products that are in the ballpark below, in case they help others. Unfortunately they just miss the mark for my use case.

• Shargeek S140: $80, >100W peak delivery for one device, but drops below that as soon as a second device is plugged in.
• 200W Omega: at $140 it's a little steep. Plus it doesn't have enough ports for me. For these reasons, I'm out.
• Anker Prime 200W: at $80 this seems like a winner, but ~~they don't show what happens to the 100W outputs when you plug in a third (or sixth) device. Question pending with their support dept.~~ it can't hit 100W on any port with 6 devices plugged in.
• Anker Prime 250W: thanks FutileRecipe for the recommendation! This hits all of the marks and comes in around $140 after a discount. Might be worth the coin.

This (arguably unhelpful) phrase seems to be taught across schools all over the world. What are some other phrases like this that are common ?

Hey there folks, on the phone with my fantabulous mother - and she just said "I wish I could find that game. That one with the monkeys. Where you had a business, and you sold bananas. And the monkey was in a suit..."

*She also adds the bananas were called "nanas" and you had to go to "The little houses which were the suppliers"

Honestly, I have no clue what this game is. Sounds like a simulation game. I thought it was that old black and white pixelated game from Mac - but I sure as HEY can't remember what game that is. But I feel like someone on here might know what it is. So if anyone knows about this magical monkey mac pixel game can someone give me the 411? Thank you!

*Was my grandmother's Mac - and we played it ~92-93. The disks were stored in a little white clamshell, and we think maybe it could have been shareware. No sure though. Ho-no!

*Down the rabbit hole I found it's from a Macintosh 128K, still trying to find it.

*The saga continues. My mother and I searched for a large quantity of time before we realized it was more than likely shareware and in turn might be so obscure that it might be too difficult to find. But I did find two things. Internet Archives has various [vintage mac](https://archive.org/search?query=Vintage Apple Macintosh Shareware Games ) games all alphabetized. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything "banana, "nana," or "monkey" related in there. (Well actually Monkey solitaire and one other game, but neither were the ones). I also found another pretty cool site with lists of games. Which I might paw through, cause I love to make my mama happy. So eh! If anyone has any idea what this might be - feel free to toss it my way, even in a message. Thank you!

It’s obvious and you would be deluded into thinking everyone you interact with likes you.

But how do you feel it?

Context: I’m a course instructor and I get direct reviews on my lessons and around 95% of feedback is positive to very positive.

There’s less than 5% of my reviews that have real negative and non-constructive comments. Things like accusations of being incompetent or unprepared or full of shit, etc. They mention times I had technical difficulties or made a mistake (like giving an incorrect response)

Just by the numbers alone this is a very small minority overall. Yet these comments stick in my head and make me doubt my abilities.

So what are your strategies or ways you drown out this stuff?

I don't know why this never occurred to me before. so quarterbacks have headsets in their helmets so they can communicate with the coaching staff. I was always under the impression that they only used it before the play, just to prevent using a runner, but is the coach ever on the microphone during the play? maybe telling the quarterback where somebody is open if he can't see it

Consider me a weeb but I like Japan, it has some truly beautiful nature and cuisines to try across the country.

Yes, there is a bit of that anime or gaming side to it, they've birthed many favourite nostalgic franchises of mine like Crash Bandicoot or Pokemon.

I also really like their architecture with their traditional houses and castles, the whole thing just seems really peaceful and tranquil given it it is a "quiet and polite" country.

Their country might be set in their ways but that is what I think makes the country special, keeping its traditions, beliefs and culture for many, many years.

My bro likes Spain because of their food and hot sunny weather 😎
