I am anxiously following the real estate market and prices are far outpacing the wage growth, making real estate really unaffordable for a lot of people, and yet there is very little political will from politicians to do anything about it.

This is especially true for desirable areas and big cities, and slowly pushing low earners to the outskirts and even outside towns. I know plenty of people who hoarded multiple properties and now they simply rent them through Airbnb or booking not to mention big corporations trying to snap even more and rent them at outrageous prices. While plenty of people cannot afford even rent in those cities.

Mind you I am not US based, but I know that this is pretty much a world phenomenon for quite a few years who got really accelerated by the COVID pandemic, but its effect will cripple future generations severely who will never be able to purchase their own roof over their head and they will forever be stuck with ever increasing rents increasing enormously the financial burden of those people.

I don't know for you but I believe this is completely unsustainable in the long term and this will become an even bigger problem in the future and I wonder why there is so little done to tackle the problem now, and what are those politicians hope, that this will magically disappear tomorrow and all will be roses?

Why aren't universally some laws against home flipping and people owning more than one residential property? I think the right of having a roof over your head is a basic human right and every person out there deserves to have a decent home and not be forced to live on the street.

So I look through the whole son died PS5 on Facebook thing. I know a number of them will block you if you point out it's a scam so I try to warn people through messaging privately. But I've found someone I want to mess with. But yeah I told them I live in Indiana and they told me they live in. Wisconsin. I tell them that's just 2 states away I can go all the way there. They still do insist on paying shipping. So I want to find a way to mess with them and waste their time thinking they have a potential victim.

So I was walking and found this garbage bag that had flys on it and it was tied up. I kicked at it a bit and it did feel like something limp was in there like it was dead. Tried to untie it as well so might have my fingerprints on it. But yeah a car came up and was yeah someone actually concerned for me and he's like I'm going to pray for you man. So that right there just got me to stop looking any further at the bag. But I'm still kinda of interested if I should've said something right then and there. My phone was almost dead anyway. But yeah I was thinking maybe I might find a dead body maybe a part of a dead body. I didn't look any further but it was out of place I felt. Should I report such finds?

Everytime when I visiti parents home it seems that don't care I'm even there. They have their "sports routines", which cannot be stopped. It happens to others too. Most topics revolt around what matches they had, with whom and watch matches in TV. Whenever they go to some holidays they look for sports hall for playing. They take part in exercises with coach, they play occasional games with 20+ friends.

The last time I had some talk, was that one time couple months ago when I brought the board game to improve our family integrity and communication skills, to get to know each other better, but that was once.

I feel that I I know them mostly on the surface level currently.

It was black and white but maybe from the 60s? Each week was up to 3 people telling a different horror story to their fellow club members.

As one of the most hardcore types of roadies, I've experienced many of the extremes of human endurance. Like the need for sodium, magnesium, and potassium from massive leg cramps, or calorie crashes when it feels like your tank runs so empty you hit a massive wall where your body all but quits.

One of the things I'm only just becoming self aware of is the need for iron/protein as a direct craving, not some common indirect theoretical knowledge.

I've been on the same basic daily diet for a year with very little variation. I've noticed times when I crave eating extra stuff. I used to be massively overweight, so I'm super aware of avoiding binge eating and most junk food. However, I've found a pattern where sometimes I need a fresh fruit, and others–I need something with protein and iron. If I go straight to those resources at the right time, the cravings stop. If I get it wrong, I feel hungry again and crave something more in a short amount of time.

I get the impression I was overweight when I was younger because I lacked the awareness to connect these dots... along with a nutrient poor base diet.

It is just a thought I've been mulling over in the back of my mind for a few days. I wonder if others are either more subconsciously able to crave a better available food that meets their needs, or if I just failed to RTFM when I was born and most people are aware of this kind of connection. So... are you self aware of different types of hungry where eating a small amount of the right thing can make the issue go away when you would otherwise eat too much?

There are some exotic foods we tend to take for granted exist. Almost every city for example has a Chinese restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, and maybe an Outback Steakhouse. But this isn't universal for some reason. Someone asked me if I wanted to go to an Egyptian restaurant and I was like "wait, they have restaurants?"

A question for all those who would say they consider themselves ethnically fluent. What are all the cultural categories of food you've had?

It seems more like a job requirement but I feel like it's quite important to me that whoever I date knows first aid.

I imagine someone who hasn't taken a first aid course is still aware of things frequently depicted in movies and TV like how to assist a choking adult or CPR but I feel like it still leaves out a lot.

I can't really recall a lot of media depicting how to treat burns or how to perform first aid on children, cats, and dogs for example so I'm not sure if that would be absorbed to the same degree by cultural osmosis.

Edit: What I meant by my question was if you found out someone you were interested in didn't know first aid and didn't express an interest in it if you'd view it as a negative.

It doesn't necessarily mean you won't date them.

I'm more curious about how important of a factor it would be to people.

I'm not sure why this is being down voted. Do people not care for these kind of questions and want me to delete it?

Sorry, I am too lazy to search myself.

Also, how do you search inside the... community? (How is sub called here? 🫢)

Since I don't know how to search inside asklemmy, I have to ask, 😅 how are users of Lemmy called? Can someone post a link where it's originally asked, please?

Additional question: when we edit our posts or comments, like adding something, do we put "Edit" before the edit, like on the platform that rhymes with edit?

Solved: It's used by members and/or supporters of Les Soulèvements de la Terre, a French radical ecologist movement disbanded by Macron's right-wing government.

background: staying in a roadside motel in the US. Man and Woman in the next room are screaming at each other. 1:30 in the morning. Not my problem.

But I did get voyeuristic and plant my ear on the wall. Most I could comprehend was "your daughter, but what about MY daughter?" from the woman. That's what I thought I heard.

I was like, if I am certain I can tell that someone is beating on someone, and trying to kill them, or you know just violence is happening, then I'll call 911. but I was far from certain. all i could discern was crying and screaming.

Hour later, someone is pounding on my door. is it someone in distress? I am in the least accessible and least desirable room in the place. It's probably one of those two neighbors, but which one?

Anyways, I'm in the US, so I have one or more guns, but I don't keep them loaded or accessible. by the time I had something ready, I think the neighbors were about to pass out. they currently are quiet after hours of screaming.

So I'm not a fan of cops, but not entirely against them. Situations in which I did call the cops:

-Neighbors were screaming at each other, 3 a.m.; their 6-year-old girl was out in the street crying.

-I heard broken glass and looked out the window, and saw a pair of big man's boots going into what I thought was a single woman's apartment.

Please be excellent to each other here. We have to self moderate or I’ll delete without being asked. Assume good intent.

I’m pro human which is why I’d rather have some people in office here in the US than others, and why I’m pro human rights.

Trans rights are human rights.

After reading criticism of the dems, this question resurfaced in my mind. I know we don’t have time machines, I know it’s easy to claim a false equivalency is being drawn. So note this question doesn’t represent reality. It represents a curiosity of a hypothetical.

Trans rights are human rights! Thank you.

PS: I hope neither this post nor its comments represent/produce any content that bad people will use to make arguments to further evil causes. Have I already erred? Yes I’m worried, I’m also curious enough to hit this post button here… gulp

alt text of featured screenshotImagine you have a time machine that lets you peek into the future, specifically the 2024 election. You can see two possible pathways:

Pathway 1: Democrats go all-in on trans rights.

They champion inclusive policies, fight for trans healthcare, and actively challenge anti-trans legislation. However, this galvanizes the opposition and they lose the election.

Pathway 2: Democrats stay completely silent on trans rights.

They avoid the issue entirely, focusing on other policy areas. This strategy helps them win the election, but trans rights are left in a vulnerable position.

The question is: which pathway would you choose?

Would you prioritize a Democrat win, even if it means sacrificing progress on trans rights? Or would you fight for trans rights, even if it means risking a loss?
