Inspired by the ongoing Resurgence giveaway, I thought it might be fun to discuss some of our favourite Trek games. Underappreciated gems are particularly welcome!

Doing another Voyager rewatch and something caught my eye that I hadn’t noticed before.

From season 7’s 22nd episode Homestead the writers forgot what year the show was set in. Even contradicting themselves within the same episode.

In the opening of the episode they are celebrating the 315th anniversary of first contact on Earth. So this puts the date at April 5th 2378. However season 7 is set in 2377 with a stardate given during the same episode of 54868.6. Or November 14th 2377. Which being at the end of season would be correct.

Even Memory Alpha lists the wrong year the episode is set in despite having the correct stardate shown.

The in-universe dates for the penultimate and final episodes are also wrong on Memory Alpha.

Renaissance Man takes place on stardate 54890.7 (November 22nd 2377) but is listed as 2378.

Also Endgame is set on December 22nd 2377 and is the day Voyager returns home. Again Memory Alpha says 2378.

It seems someone at Memory Alpha worked out the date first contact day was in Homestead and just went with that instead of converting the star dates to normal calendar dates.

I know it’s a bit of a nitpick but small errors like this bug me.

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing fine and are well prepared for the winter holidays!

We at Dramatic Labs want to sweeten the festive season a little and are therefore giving away a total of 10 copies of Star Trek Resurgence on a platform of your choice (PS4, PS5, Xbox or PC).

Star Trek: Resurgence is a narrative-driven adventure game created by former members of Telltale Games that delivers all the excitement and wonder of the Star Trek universe. Join the crew of the U.S.S. Resolute as first officer Jara Rydek and enlisted engineer Carter Diaz on a mission to prevent an eons-old and powerful force from engulfing everything in its wake!

To take part, you have to comment on which Star Trek games you grew up with and which one was your favourite. The 10 winners will be randomly selected and contacted by me. The giveaway will run until 21st December 23:59 CET.

We would also be very happy if you visit us on our socials:

I have mixed feelings about Disco ending. I really dug the first season's look at a Federation at war, and following the person who arguably set that war in motion dealing with her culpability. Add to that a ship that is part weird science lab, part haunted house. And yeah, I could live with the Klingon redesign.

It was inventive, it took risks and broke some moulds — and not always successfully, mind you. But I stuck with it from the hopeful "First three seasons are for growing pains" Trek paradigm.

Then the show took some odd turns. Rather than focusing on the crew's adventures in space and science, season two constructed a cosmic conundrum around Burnham and her family. I was still on board for the characters, even bearded Spock no matter how shoehorned in he felt. The show's unapologetic optimism was still a big selling point, too.

With season three came the time jump into a future that absolutely does not feel like it's a thousand years ahead of the previous season. The jump in technology should be proportional to a Viking longboat rocking up to the ISS, but it felt like a step back. And at this point, the extended crew of the Discovery was thoroughly sidelined: Burnham's personal relationships took priority over everything else.

For one example: As great as Michelle Yeoh is, the show basically redeemed a murderous space despot because... she reminded Burnham of her Starfleet counterpart?! I'm going to stop you right there, Captain "This is Starfleet" — this is a person who kept rubbing in Saru's face how familiar she was with the taste of his species' flesh.

I'll keep watching Disco through to its end because I'm invested in the remaining characters, but this isn't the show I apprehensively fell in love with anymore. Its strengths are all but gone, its faults enhanced, and its commercial(?) failure seems to have convinced the Powers That Be that future Star Trek needs to be grounded in nostalgia for previous eras.

I will miss the first season's promise of new, daring Trek shows writ large, and as much as I liked Pike and his crew in season two, SNW leans too heavily and knowingly on the franchise's campier canon for my taste (I know I'm in a minority with that opinion, and I'm not here to argue for or against). With peak TV fading, I'm afraid we won't see anything as bold as TNG, DS9 — or early Discovery — again.

Kev & Rob approach the impenetrable barrier that is the end of Star Trek: Lower Decks, Season Four, "Old Friends, New Planets”, and talk about other barriers in space, including "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (TOS), "The Tholian Web" (TOS), "Encounter at Farpoint" (TNG), and "The Galactic Barrier" (DIS). Stay after the credits for a brief debrief on "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier".

Jeffrey Combs better known as Weyoun, Brunt, Shran and many others - how do you say his surname? As in what you use to detangle your hair? Or more like Cooms?

Apologies for the stupidity of this question, but I’ve only ever seen his name written down.

I really don't like Lower Decks. Before you downvote, I would never tell anyone it's bad or that they shouldn't like it. I just really can't figure out why most people seem to like it so much.

Similar to what I've heard many fans of LD say, I don't like Discovery or Picard either but I love Strange New Worlds. That seems to be pretty common among the Lower Decks fandom. Yet no matter how many times I try to watch LD I always end up borderline hating it. I don't even like the crossover episode with SNW.

For reference, the things I specifically dislike are: I don't find it funny; I think that the characters are too cynical, hyperactive or doe-eyed; and I'm normally a big proponent of 2D animation but I don't like LD's art style either.

It's cool that they have brought back so many characters, actors and details from the old days, but to me that's not enough to get over the things I don't like. I'm also not one to notice that they faithfully recreated a minor detail from the classic series without it being pointed out to me.

Is it just that my sense of humor and other tastes are too different, despite sharing a lot of other opinions with fans of LD? Or is it the deep Trek references that people love so much but often go over my head? Or is it something else entirely that I'm not getting that makes so many people love this show?

Whatever it is that's lost on me, I'm glad so many people are getting their joy from LD. I just need to convince my coworker to stop recommending it to me. :P

(I also spent over an hour editing this before posting it to make sure it sounds as diplomatic as possible, so hopefully I don't still manage to piss everyone off with my heresy.)
