Step 1: Install the game via Lutris

(Use steam if you bought it via steam)

  • Click the + sign, search Black Desert and install the first one
  • Choose the installation path (default is fine)
  • Do not create any shortcuts during any point of the installation
  • Do not run BDO after installation

Step 2: Add the game to your steam library

Why? Because via Lutris' wine version the camera doesn't work properly

  • On steam go to Games > Add non-steam game on the top right
  • Find the BlackDesertLauncher.exe in the instalaltion path. Should be /install/path/drive_c/PearlAbyss/BlackDesert/BlackDesertLauncher.exe
  • Right click the game on your library and go to properties > force compatibility layer > proton experimental

Step 3: Run the game via Steam

If at first it doesn't run just close it and open it again. The Black Spirit's Adventure, the Adventurer's board, and the guild daily message doesn't display properly (you can still use them however if you remember the buttons by memory), everything else works perfectly fine.

Note: if you have it, SELinux tries to block it, you can dismiss the reports and it should work fine, otherwise you may need to set policies or disable SELinux. I will look into this further

Title. Turning off the fancy effects (which can be done with Alt+Shift+F12) improves performance slightly, but having to toggle them on and off every time I start a game is... Y'know. A thing.

I was wondering if there was a way to automate it, like game opens -> they turn off, game process ends -> they turn back on

At this point, making something that doesn't work using Wine or Proton is actually kind of an achievement, so congrats EA, you managed to fuck up both Origin and EA app. The actual game runs flawlessly, it's the launchers that are all kinds of broken.

I installed StarCraft: Mass Recall which is an impressive project that recreates the original StarCraft and Brood War campaigns in StarCraft 2. Everything works except that the cinematics and some of the game assets are flat, blank red. For example some of the video portraits in the briefing rooms display correctly, but Mengsk is a solid red square. In the first mission Raynor's vulture is flat red while everything else looks correct. Sound works correctly including in cinematics.

The game assets aren't a huge deal, but the cinematics are a big part of the reason for playing these campaigns IMO.

I've tried everything I can think of. I tried some different Wine runners. I tried disabling DXVK. I installed a number of dependencies that look like they provide video codecs:

  • amstream
  • devenum
  • quartz
  • xvid
  • ffdshow

Does anyone have ideas about what else I might try?

What I did figure out is a working command to run the mod, which took me a while. I used Bottles, installed Battle.net through the Bottles program installer, installed StarCraft 2 via Battle.net, and finally installed Mass Recall by unzipping and copying its files to the StarCraft Maps/ and Mods/ directories. Then I was able to run Mass Recall with this command:

$ bottles-cli shell -b "<bottle name>" -i '"C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II\Support64\SC2Switcher_x64.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II\Maps\Starcraft Mass Recall\SCMR Campaign Launcher.SC2Map"'

So I'm getting the famous gray screen crash on trying to start the game.

I have finally moved to Linux for my main machine and almost everything is running smoothly except this game in particular.

I using Lutris to get to BattleNet. Overwatch 2 works great. But Diablo 4 just shows a gray screen for 2 or 3 seconds and then the window closes bringing me back to whatever was on the screen when it tried launching.

I've seen a bunch of mentions of this issue, most are for the Steam Deck or are Windows-related, and I've seen a lot of posts about switching Proton versions and VKD3D versions, but I cannot seem to get a working combination to just get into the game.

I don't have a clue what is wrong or how to even diagnose what else to do here. All of the links I can find that mention anything.

I had to stop after launch because my last machine only had 4GB of RAM and would choke after a few minutes, but this machine should not be having problems.

Edit- Game is still having problems even when launched from Steam.

I cannot get Battle.net to launch with any regular Proton version or Experimental. I also can only get it running with GE after version 8-26. (only 3 versions, 8-26, 9-1, and 9-5)

But every version up to 9-5 has the gray screen for a couple seconds, then the game closes with no error message.

Run through Bottles (flatpak) on Fedora Silverblue, AMD GPU, lutris-GE-Proton8-26

edit edit:

  • 6.8.8-200.fc39.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC
  • Radeon RX 6700 XT
  • amd-gpu-firmware-20240410-1.fc39.noarch
  • amd-ucode-firmware-20240410-1.fc39.noarch
  • xorg-x11-drv-amdgpu-23.0.0-2.fc39.x86_64

Neither bg3.exe nor bg3_dx11.exe launch the game for me, so I use the LariLauncher.exe.

  • with DirectX11 the game starts but there are bad textures, including on the very first rendered screen.
  • with Vulkan I get this error and the game crashes still at this loading screen.

The launcher complains about data mismatch but Heroic Launcher which I use to download my gog files apparently thinks it is fine. Although, the "Verify and Repair" button takes only couple of seconds.

Any ideas please?

Are they some graphic card benchmark for linux environment ? From my windows experience, drivers are important, and often underestimate. My linux gaming experience is very bad, lots of my game are unstable, and others use a lot more resources than with windows. However, when I ask people, some of them have no issue at all, even with a similar environment (Debian + Steam). I may consider buy specific graphic card to stay on linux, but I couldn't find any clue to know which one are more adapted.

Thx for your leads !

I'm using EndeavourOS with ext4 file system for daily usage and a dual bootable Windows for gaming. What I want to have right now is getting rid of Windows completely.

When I tried it before, I had to try multiple tweaks for a game and find which one worked on Linux. Therefore, I want to take a snapshot with BTRFS and try it until I find the right configuration.

While I have quite a bit of experience with Linux, I've never used BTRFS. Do you think it's worth it?

I thought about keeping the games on the ext4 system, but I hate splitting the disk. I'm thinking of keeping the games in a non-snapshot volume.

UPDATE: I just re-installed EndeavourOS with BTRFS + snapper + BTRFS Assistant :)

tl;dr: Security concerns for my Linux partition, when running Vanguard on Windows?

Now that Vanguard is out, I can't play LoL on Linux anymore. I'm running a dual boot setup with windows and I'm using it only for stuff I can't get to work on Linux, so there is no personal data on there.

  • Are there any security risks for my Linux partition, if Vanguard is installed and running on my Linux partition?
  • Could Vanguard potentially access my ext4 Linux file system via Windows?
  • If my NAS is mounted on Windows, could that also be a security concern?

I'm grateful for any kind of feedback, since I'm not very informed in terms of rootkits and kernels!

Hello fellow Linux gamers!

I've recently switched to nobara for gaming. I've had no real issues so far and it's all running smoothly! Queue my Xbox controller.

A year or two ago I bought an Xbox wireless control ( 2020 version according to the order ). Now I wanted to use the controller, but it is not being detected. The light keeps blinking. On nobara itself it looks like it mounted the dongle as a USB Stick.

That would explain why the controller isn't connecting.

How would I best go at tackling this? Any tips? I've already ran the following command:

nobara-controller-config

This installed some drivers and required a reboot ( which I did ).

Thanks in advance for any guidance or tips!

Recently I have been trying to play my old games (Worms, Sims, Black & White, etc..) on my Steam Deck.

I created an ISO of the various CD's via the dd command, but I have noticed Crossover doesn't support ISO. I needed to mount the ISO to a location.

This worked to install the game but fails copy protection. If I connect a USB DVD drive it detects the disc and works but this isn't particularly helpful.

Does anyone know what I should be setting or doing so the game sees the ISO or ISO mount as the disc?

A lot of the games I want to play simply don't have a steam version to buy

Vesktop is a custom Discord App with an aim to give better performance and support on Linux.

v1.5.2 fixes various audio issues related to screensharing and also overhauls video streaming with various fixes/improvements:

  • Fix resolution and framerate selection
  • Fix bug that stops users from changing the streamed window (created by allowing resolution changes)
  • Fix bug where changing windows allows you to lower the fps but not raise it
  • Beautify modal for starting a stream(show preview and content type as a dropdown)
  • Fix issue where stream quality overlay does not update to show the current quality of the running stream
  • Enable contentHint and allow the user to choose between "motion" and "detail"
  • Allow users to start streams while watching another stream

So - heres a weird one.

Everything was completely fine until last night and I have no idea what has changed at all.

When my screen sits idle for more than a second it get fuzzy and blurry. Then it will pulse from fuzzy to clear about every second.

Every letter I type causes the screen to flash clear, but then immediately goes back to fuzzy after I release the key. Mousing over an entity that causes an interaction does the same thing.

It is not the HDMI cable. Ive tried 3 cables. Its not my HDMI switch, I've changed all the cable and swapped ports around several times.

I have a SAMSUNG 43 UHD TV (60hz) that I use as my monitor. It is set to Dynamic Display in Game Mode. This has worked with no issues at all for 6+ months.

I ran some system updates 2 days ago, but the issue didn't start until last night. Also - its intermittent - so I'm at a total fucking loss. Reboots/Resets of varying types have not seemed to help.

Any ideas? let me know what else you need from me - Im still a relatively new linux user so be gentle.

Thank you in advance

I have 2 relevant drives. The system drive, and a drive with my game files. The drive with the game files is mounted. However, it is not displayed under "Other devices" and I am unable to select it from /dev/

Installed it using yay from AUR (aur/heroic-games-launcher-bin 2.14.1-1).

Any ideas as to what may be causing this, or how to go about troubleshooting?

Hey Folks,

I had Diablo 4, the Battle.net version, running perfectly fine under Lutris Flatpak. Then randomly one day it just stopped working, I didn't download a new version of the wine runner I was using, I didn't make any configuration changes it just broke. Specifically it boots, the screen goes grey for a few seconds, and then it loads up super slowly, like 1 fps and makes the game interface and Plasma becomes unusable, so I have to drop to a TTY to kill the process. Nothing really interesting is show if I select "show logs" in Lutris.

I was thinking some Flatpak Lutris update broke it, so I tried to install the game using Bottles, also a Flatpak, but ended up with exact same problem. Now I am thinking this may be a Mesa problem since that is a dependency both of these Flatpaks share. I am using the same Wine GE version on both, but it's a version from February and it worked just fine a few weeks ago.

Any recommendations on what I could do or what I could look at to debug further?
