Well I don't wanna spread only negativity asking people avout what they dislike. What words do you find funny.

Personally I like zesty, edging and the 'are they stupid?'

SK what internet lingo do you like?

It seems like it can tick many of the boxes for effective long term learning if used properly (including not just surface learning but also deep conceptual understanding). However, my impression is that there is a learning curve and a cost associated to using it consistently, which leads to it not being used as much. Idk. What’s your experience?

Thanks to anyone who approves me to join for Lemmy through this lemmy.ml instance.

P.S., I tried three times to sign up through the lemmy.world instance, but it failed. 🥲

Please don't think I'm here to complain about rizz or skibidi toilet etc. Thats all fine by me.

The term I dislike strongly is 'eeeh' before you make a statement disagreeing with someone. (This is over text only). Now maybe I've been pavloved bc it's always used by someone disagreeing. But I'm happy with people disagreeing with me normally its just the 'eeeh' or 'erm' that annoys me.

So what's a random term that annoys you?

PS. Saying "eeeh actually 'eeh' is a perfectly fine term" would be a ridiculously easy joke and I will judge you for making it. And I know atleast one person will. Especially bow that I've said all this.

What are people's experiences with the fairphone (4) in regards to build quality?

Apologies, rant ahead of my frustrations with it

I bought mine second hand and had to replace the battery immediately (maybe previous owner treated it badly)

The mic stopped working recently, which I kind of fixed by taking it apart, cleaning it out and putting it all back together but it's still dodgey

Charger port no longer works without me jamming the charger in and holding it there

Also again from the start the actual horsepower behind it seems insufficient to run the version of android it came with smoothly sometimes, meaning at some point soon I'm going to have to replace it just so it can keep up.

It's great that I can fix these problems by getting replacement parts rather than replacing the whole phone, but it's getting expensive really quickly and I'm not sure I trust their build quality given how much has broken right off the bat

This question just flew out of my mouth yesterday evening during family time (not sure why) so I thought I would ask it here. It was very odd.

As the title states I am confused on this matter. The way I see it, the USA has a two party system and in the next few weeks they’re either going to have Trump or Harris as president, come inauguration day. With this in mind doesn’t it make sense to vote for the person least likely to escalate the situation even more.

Giving your vote to an independent or worse not voting at all, just gives more of a chance for Trump to win the election and then who knows what crazy stuff he will allow, or encourage, Israel to get away with.

I really don’t get the logic. As sure nobody wants to vote for a party allowing these heinous crimes to be committed, but given you’re getting one of them shouldn’t you be voting for the one that will be the least horrible of the two.

Please don’t come at me with pro-Israeli rhetoric as this isn’t the post for that, I’m asking about why people would make such choices and I’m not up for debate on the Middle East, on this post, you can DM me for that.

Edit: Bedtime here now so will respond to incoming comments in the morning, love starting the day with an inbox full 😊.

Edit 2: This blew up, it’s a little overwhelming right now but I do intent on replying to everybody that took the time to comment. Just need to get in the right headspace.

It's been a long ol time since I've known any lesbians well enough to ask such things, but I followed my brain down a weird line of inquiry, and got to wondering about the current state of the art for the gay gals. I guess I had always assumed it was similar to the dynamics of a gay guy relationship, but then I realized that since men have both an input and an output, they can choose, but it's mechanically a bit different for cis women. Is there any relationship between that, and the slightly more masculine versus feminine flavors? Asking for a friend, who is me. I want to know. Thanks.

How often do you update your apps on your devices?

me:

  • android: 2x per year, except some app needs an update to work
  • linux/manjaro: every few months, except security stuff (ik its a rolling release distro but I hate updating frequently)

A while ago I updated mostly directly after publish. But since more and more apps (primarily Google services, Social Media, ...) get shitty updates which include AI and bloat, I try to update as less as possible while stil trying to get important and new features.
But many apps freak out when not applying these updates in this timespan, which makes it really annoying when needing an app urgently. Then having to update them with eventually bad network makes me aggressive.

Which are your opinions?

With everything that's happening there, I was wondering if it was possible. Obviously their size is massive, but I'm sure there's a ton of duplicated stuff. Also some things are more important to preserve than others, and some things are preserved elsewhere (Anna's Archive, Libgen, and Z-Lib come to mind that could preserve books if the IA disappeared).

But how could things get archived from the IA (assuming it's possible) on both a personal level (aka I want to grab a copy of that wayback snapshot) and on a more wide scale community level? Are there people already working on it? If not, what would be the best theoretical way to get started?

And what are the most important things in your opinion that should be prioritized if the IA was about to disappear and we only had so much time and storage to utilize?

I carve the pumpkin, and it looks good for about two days before withering.

Lightly bake it after carving maybe? (what temperature and how many minutes?)

Is there a way I can soak it in some preservative like formaldehyde without starting the Great Fire of London?

My one friend and I have been leaving odd gifts on my friend's car with notes like "I think this fell out of your car" nothing of value. Nothing that can damage the vehicle.
