From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

I will not watch such long video with such dumb title. Any summary?

Haven't watched all of it, but off the top of my head: Bryan Lunduke is long time Linux and FOSS enthusiast who is known for having yearly tongue-in-cheek "Linux sucks" speeches, which have traditionally been good fun. Lunduke has in the past few years become a polarizing figure with a lot of reactionary American politics seeping in to his Linux content. Nicco is a KDE developer and youtuber who made this video to criticize his latest content.

Me too. Sounds like drama.

Thanks for the summary @banazir@lemmy.ml

Do you know who Bryan Lunduke is? That's what this video is about.

If that name happens to not ring a bell, you aren't missing anything.

[–] anamethatisnt@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago

I had no idea but spent some time googling anyways.
The answer seems to be a conservative tech youtuber that once upon a time worked with linux tech.

Reddit user comments:

It's really unsettling. He used to be a great Linux guy but now he's just a nut.

I unsubscribed from his YT channel and stopped following him as he gradually began to drift from being a dorky goofball to being a right-wing apologist.

Don't listen to Bryan Lunduke. He's a middle aged edgelord that new Linux users get introduced to because of his smart-ass "Linux Sucks" series, and then as they learn more about Linux themselves they realize he's just a douche who's not worthy of their youtube views.

Brian Lunduke?

Say no more, it'll be shit.

[–] deliriousn0mad@feddit.it 6 points 7 months ago

This video is criticising Lunduke, it isn't made by him

[–] backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi 2 points 7 months ago

The "[thing] [synonym for 'is bad'] and here's why" title has been a thing on YouTube for years now.

[–] Swarfega@lemm.ee 0 points 7 months ago

Not a dumb title,.just purposely "click bait"

[–] azvasKvklenko@sh.itjust.works 10 points 7 months ago

The older Lunduke gets, the more he’s convinced about being right on everything, therefore the more rubbish he has to say.

I miss the era of 10 minute videos. Nowadays, everything is either 50 second long or 3 hours.

[–] 1984@lemmy.today 2 points 7 months ago

I won't even watch 10 minutes. Video is really a huge time waster.

[–] GravitySpoiled@lemmy.ml 2 points 7 months ago

They video is way too long and he stays too long on some topics but he's right. He doesn't deserve the downvotes

""Linux Sucks" Sucks" Sucks. Here's why.

2meta4u

j/k nicco is good people

[–] Kajika@lemmy.ml 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It really has the vibe of an hbomberguy video. I also feel the background is a subtle tribute to his style.

[–] backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi 5 points 7 months ago

He confirmed in the premiere chat that the broken wallpaper is a direct hbomberguy reference.

Oooooh this comment section is gonna be an inferno soon!

Man, I haven't seen a pony in the wild in ages.

[–] EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It's never too late for ponies!

[–] backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I don't understand the people who say it's long, like no it isn't, 1:15:24 is a completely reasonable (if not even a bit short) time for the topic.

[–] Kajika@lemmy.ml 6 points 7 months ago

They just don't want to watch it. Length is not really an argument.

[–] PoliticalCustard@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I went to bed late last night because of this video! Nicco is a wonderful content creator, there's very little fluff in his videos and he clearly put a lot of time and research into it. Historically it's very interesting and we really should be putting effort into taking down Lunduke who is a right-wing piece of shit. I followed him a few weeks ago not knowing about him and after watching a video I was like "what the fuck is this shit?" and unfollowed him, but other Linux people might fall for it - this video will be a great resource to send to people who do fall for it.

Lunduke may be correct about of things, but he doesn't even touch the surface on the current desktop bullshit.

[–] squid_slime@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

Great I forgot these are a thing!

[–] jet@hackertalks.com -1 points 7 months ago

Getting old sucks, but it beats the alternatives.

Linux sucks, so make it better.
