[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 0 points 6 days ago

Stolen from @vmstan

More analysis from @wiredfire:

It’s nothing to do with [difficulties in using multiple platforms]. It’s to do with the massive backlash they got on Fedi for their CEO being all Trumpy and somewhat horrible right wing. So they’ve run away because they were made to feel unwelcome on account of us not letting their BS fly.

Original screenshot is of the bio of https://mastodon.social/@protonprivacy and wasn’t a post (that confused me for a sec).

swap the 2nd and 3rd text and remove the “please don’t buy an ev” because they of course are fine as a transition measure and this is a good post

but this is a bad post otherwise

Posting this because no one else seems to want to, and it’s a discussion worth having outside of drama or personal conflicts. I’m undecided and can see both sides, but it’s important to address.

Potential benefits of a limit:

  • Frequent posters hold significant influence and could, in theory, push misinformation or propaganda (though I haven't seen evidence of this it’s a fair concern).
  • A community dominated by one or two voices might discourage new members from participating.
  • Encouraging quality over quantity could increase the value of individual posts.

Potential downsides of a limit:

  • Could reduce overall community engagement.
  • If set too low, it might discourage meaningful participation from well-intentioned members.
  • It could inadvertently encourage the (mis)use of alt accounts.

These are some pros/cons but certainly not all! I encourage more discussion below.

but now, apparently, it’s okay to say the entire country is filled with bullies and idiots like these kids at this school.

i mean… yeah cuz it’s kinda true. 22% of US students report being bullied—that’s 1 in 5, and those are 3 times as likely to show suicidal behaviors, which is the second leading cause of death in high schoolers.

compare that to criminal convictions for murder by illegal migrants in FY24: 29. not 29 hundred, not thousand. twenty-nine.

bullying is a huge problem. don’t get me wrong, i’m friends with former self-admitted bullies. it doesn’t mean a person is irredeemable. but bullying is a big deal that’s worth talking about.

once i pointed out that most modern mobile OSes have a native “smart invert” which can make any app dark mode without messing with images and i got called ableist 😭

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 1 points 2 months ago

a good selection of these apps don’t. unsure if that’s an intentional choice or not.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 0 points 2 months ago (3 children)

valid i think there are some scientifically proven drawbacks both ways also dark mode is worse if u have astigmatism

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

i genuinely have no desire to stir beef but i have never heard a single positive thing from or about the guy 😭 i hope i can be shown wrong

For some reason whenever someone posts any news about Pixelfed one of the top comments is usually along the lines of “no dark mode, no use.” Boy do I have good news for those users!

Like the rest of the Fediverse, and unlike corporate media, there are multiple apps you can use! Examples:

This is also useful for users who have qualms about the Pixelfed dev’s more… distasteful? behavior (example I found today) and don’t rock with rewarding it, kind of like how a lot of Lemmy users might block or defederate the flagship .ml instance.

I couldn't find anything :( oddly, fediverse.observer actually was logging data before that time but it's only accessible to me via wayback: https://web.archive.org/web/20241010192709/https://pixelfed.fediverse.observer/dailystats

@diasporg@mas.to any reason fediverse.observer is limited to only a few months? (no clue if this cross-platform ping will work but giving it a shot)

I feel insane that no one has commented this yet??? The data clearly only starts in November. At minimum this is our second plateau and I seem to recall more that have happened lmao.

no real hate to the original creator or post but i am not really a fan of the venture capital aspect of bluesky also it’s not even fediverse (currently only accessible via bridge) so taking the opportunity to make a factually correct meme lol 😝

Very sad about this.
