...how many of you will stay? Personally, I wiped my Reddit history and deleted my account, so I'm definitely here to stay. I can see, however, that a number of people see Lemmy more as a distraction until the blackout is over. I wonder what that number would be.

I'm intending to stay, barring poking in and seein if there's any extra niche communities that could fit at home here (there's a good few cat ones), I wiped my accounts and am currently waiting on a data request export. Once I can get that then I'm wiping my accounts and not turning back.

I’m staying. This may not be the Big Thing, but in my eyes, it’s a worthy contender.

Reddit simply isn’t anymore, if it ever truly was.

The reaction from spez has moved me from “just don’t go back” to “learn enough about scripts to run that salt the earth thing I saw from GitHub.”

I am not expecting the blackout to be over to be fair. Reddit is not backing down. While I will miss it, I am prepared to use only Lemmy for quite some time perhaps even indefinitely. And it's not difficult in fact.

I was one of those weird Redditors that liked to browse "all" as almost every subreddit offered some interesting posts for me. Because of it I am not too worried about staying only at Lemmy as most conversations or post peak my interest.

I'm definitely here to stay. One among many. And not for a kind of reddit bis. For what's different from reddit here.

[–] needthosepylons@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Although err.. Well, I'm glad there's an anarchychess community here. Don't ask me why, but it's almost a metaphysical experience for me.

[–] hotspur@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

When I saw they were here, I knew I was staying.

If RIF goes, I don't see myself spending any meaningful time on reddit. We'll see if I stick around here.

[–] happilybitchycowboy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There wasn't much to Reddit when it first started. Users built it over the years, including myself. I'd love to see Lemmy do the same, but it'll take work and commitment. Should it happen to become as large, I do wonder if it will eventually face the same woes as Reddit.

[–] Da_Boom@iusearchlinux.fyi 2 points 1 year ago

It shouldn't, provided people don't just pile into single instances and spread themselves out.

Also Support your local instance provider.. ask them if they have a patron or something you can donate to. These servers aren't cheap to run, and the more people and on an instance, the more money it takes to keep up on the upkeep.

In the end due to the lack of ads, someone must front the costs, and with no angel investors (I mean I don't want angel investors all over my fediverse, do you?) it's gotta be us.

Haven't decided yet if I'll stay, or get rid of this type of social media entirely. We'll see. Not going back to Reddit though, I think.

I will probably use both reddit and lemmy. But as long as I can't use a third party app for reddit, I will use it a lot less. And the better lemmy gets, the more I will use it vs reddit.

[–] Kezza596@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

Wiped and deleted. I'm putting down roots.

[–] Isaac95@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I'll stay. I've been looking for a reason to move off reddit for a long time. But there didn't seem to be a non political based exodus, until now. The TD stuff and voat seemed too political charged and only people of a certain political leaning left. As a result voat and the others were just all about American politics. This feels much more across the board, and so far I'm loving the Lemmy community.

[–] TDSP@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I am liking my experience so far. I did a decade on Reddit and feel like I got the full experience (including moderating a subreddit big enough to have front page problems). I was already a bit tired of it when I got called a Nazi like 30 times for posting on a specific subreddit a few times. This new enshittification kinda clenched that I want to move to a different place. Not sure if it’s Lemmy or not, but I’m trying it.

[–] HorseFD@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

This place feel so much better. The only downside is the user base isn't here yet. Let's hope many more people move over.

[–] Gazelli@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I'm here for good. Yes it will take some time to get the lay of the land but, I'm already confident this will become a much better home for me.

[–] ahhhuevo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

At this point I am not interested in going back.. the way they have treated the community they can suck it. I think some people that have not "migrated" platforms before may feel uneasy but this place feels pretty familiar. We just have to give it some time.

[–] ProximaC@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

16 years... I have several custom feeds that I will lurk when im on my pc, but I think I'm done posting there. Lemmy will hopefully grow to replace it for me.

[–] Anti_Weeb_Penguin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I have been permabanned from both reddit and twitter so i'll stay here

[–] LilBagOfBunnies@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

Planning on sticking around! I'm losing RiF and Jerboa seems to work well enough; hopefully it continues to improve as the platform continues to get more popular. I'll likely still check on Reddit for certain communities as they develop here, but otherwise I'm digging Lemmy and would love to see it grow!

[–] kinther@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Deleted my accounts and all post/comment history as well. I'm fully Lemmy only now.

[–] confusedbonobo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I haven't deleted my account yet, but I'm in no hurry to go back. I'll go back if I see some change (in any case I'll also be here, it's cozy)

[–] Cyan@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I'm staying. Feels more like how Reddit was at the beginning and how it should've stayed.
