I currently pay for YT music premium but I'd really rather not give Google my money.

Yes! There's ViMusic available on F-droid.

There is yt music revanced too, you can patch it yourself by revanced manager

there's also LibreTube. I found it to be surprisingly useful and snappy

Does anyone have a solution for ios on this? There is https://github.com/qnblackcat/uYouPlus/ But I find that the downloads are still extremely slow even after the 3.0 update

I've heard that BlackHole is good.

If it has to be YT Music it seems like YTMusicUltimate is good.

I was gonna say it's already an option (along many other apps btw) in the manager, but someone already let you know. The latest apk of yt music works btw. The recommended one stopped working suddenly for me.
