, “I would say the Extreme Court is imposing Sharia Law on the United States, but that would be a lie. Even under Sharia Law women are not left to suffer and die from a tubal pregnancy.”

~ VP Harris

Can the Supreme Court be sued for criminal negligence as soon as there's a death related to this?

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 55 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Qualified immunity. They ruled on it themselves

The system is working exactly as intended.

OB-GYN's have already been fleeing Idaho. This is just going to accelerate it. Pretty soon they won't have any maternity wards left because these batshit Christians want to have absolute control over all women in the state.

I remember a time where a lot of Christians shat on other religions for doing this exact type of thing.

[–] ApostleO@startrek.website 11 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Yeah. I'm tired of embarrassment every time I see my state mentioned in a news headline.

[–] BarrelAgedBoredom@lemm.ee 11 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It could be worse. You could be from Florida

As a former Texan, I get it.

Id always say stay and be vocal about making a change. Be the vote to remove the religious terrorists from government. Dont give extremists more voting power.

But also, can 100% understand saying fuck this murderous shithole of a state and move away.

[–] barsoap@lemm.ee 34 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

How in the everloving fuck can a legal system be so absolutely broken as to not allow self defence.

[–] Talaraine@kbin.social 33 points 10 months ago (1 children)

So, this pretty much eliminates the need to go to hospitals for birth, yeah? I mean it sounds like they're just gonna let you die anyway. Time for a Doula revolution

[–] superduperenigma@lemmy.world 22 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Eliminates the need? More like eliminates the option.

Obstetricians are leaving the state in droves (because their job has become an increasingly risky legal obstacle course), and hospitals are shutting down their birthing centers (because they don't have obstetricians to see patients).

[–] Talaraine@kbin.social 5 points 10 months ago

True but if you don't go, you don't have to pay them to do nothing taps temple

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Who will be left in these shithole states?

[–] superduperenigma@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

People who don't have the means to relocate elsewhere.

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Plus the droves of idiots who actually agree with this shit, whether through honest belief or indoctrination.

Story time! My friend's cousin gave birth to a child with no brain. It had a rudimentary brain stem but literally had no brain. Her doctors knew this early on and suggested she abort as it had a 0% chance of survival. She was staunchly anti-abortion and declined, going on about how God meant her to have this child. So she carried it to term and actually managed to keep it alive for a few weeks, telling anyone who listened that it was her miracle baby. It would roll its eyes around and twitch at random. Surprising no one, it soon died. She was crushed as she thought it was getting better. Somehow. Magic I guess.

This is what American christofascist indoctrination does to people. It's like the Handmaid's Tale but everyone is 50% stupider.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 22 points 10 months ago

And that's gonna really help people and companies decide where not to go.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 21 points 10 months ago (1 children)

To simplify this... Idaho (and other states) are spending time and money to make sure that a pregnant woman and the fetus die from pregnancy complications, instead of just the fetus.

If you are a woman in one of these states, they would rather let you die a slow, gory, painful and entirely preventable death, than allow you to terminate an already failed pregnancy on the off chance that God comes down and re-inplants your ectopic pregnancy, something which has, to my knowledge, never happened before, not even in their fucking fairytale book.

[–] Jimmyeatsausage@lemmy.world 19 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You mean the same book that instructed priests to perform abortions on pregnant women if their husband even suspected infidelity?

Its not about their sky-daddy, its jist about control.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

I was talking about one that extols the virtues of letting a mob rape your daughters in order to save two dudes you've just met from the same fate.

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 13 points 10 months ago

Welcome to back water America. Pathetic.

[–] theodewere@kbin.social 12 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

they wouldn't want to interfere with the right of self proclaimed Christians to use laws to enforce their imagined dogma on everyone else

[–] rivermonster@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

The title is incorrect. It should read: The Supreme Court is an accomplice to pre meditated murder.

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

"We should leave it up to the States to decide," knowing full well that each and every case would end up before the Supreme Court no matter which way they went and that the SCOTUS would eventually get to decide for every single state again.

[–] ghostdoggtv@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Confederate SCOTUS gonna make states rights the cover up issue for Republicans who have already set foot on their war path with America.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

In two years this will be the law in over 20+ states.

Still think it's okay that all the Democrats did was raise money off Roe repeal?

[–] whereisk@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

Hillary had 'baggage' so people didn't vote for her and got this supreme Court instead. Let's make sure to continue this winning strategy because it works so well /s

[–] bedrooms@kbin.social 5 points 10 months ago
