In this post I will list the known issues or possible improvements for Lemmy.world.

Please comment with any issue or area for improvement you see and I will add it here.

Issues can be:

  • Local (lemmy.world) (also performance issues)
  • Lemmy software issues
  • Other software related (apps/Fediverse platforms etc)
  • Remote server related
  • (User error? ...)

Known issues

  • Posting big posts of over 2000 characters fails, the Post button will stay spinning
  • Top posts page gets a stream of new posts ? Websockets issue
  • You're suddenly in another post than you were before > Websockets issue

Enhancement requests

  • Can themes be added? > To be checked if this can be done without changing code.

Former reddit user making the switch the best I can.

  • Found this guide and made an account on Lemmy.world
  • went on my merry way and found several communities here and there
  • tried to install the mobile client Jerboa and got blocked because the server is older than the app version โ€” and for some reason the former versions crash on my phone

โžก am I right to assume that the end user risks losing its app mobile access everytime there's a update from the app and / or the server?

  • in the end I ended up downloading Thunder which allowed me to login to lemmy.world without version issues

Well, 2 strange things:

  • New jerboa version requires server version 0.18, which isn't released yet
  • Jerboa dev is same as Lemmy dev so he probably should align releases better ;-)

Dessalines has mentioned somewhere that lemmy 0.18 is scheduled to be released today. He has released the latest version of Jerboa because lemmy.ml is already running 0.18... But ya, things could have been done more smoothly. Hopefully 0.18 doesn't lag too far behind.

I see that things still need to settle down..

EDIT: Funnily enough, the lemmy.ml instance seems to be one of the only running on 0.18
