A quick emoji can easily shift tone of text or be in place of a text action. But in general, one of my internet rules is; the more someone uses emojis, the dumber they are. Whether that be taking all the additional time to make themselves unintelligible, or trail their comment with two, three, or nineteen emojis, half of which are rofl faces ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐๐๐๐คช๐ซณ๐คโ๏ธ๐ช

Edit: I feel dirty.
Emojis are a good way to try and mitigate the ubiquitous assumption of context that happens on text based forums.
Which is to say they've got a little upwards curve in indicating intelligence at the beginning prior to the plummet into dumpster fire territory you're associating them with... and I don't actually disagree with that, just a friendly addendum ;)
