It gets exhausting, so tiring, to hate everyone around you. So much energy sapped just from immediately disliking someone for the smallest thing. Too much for too long.

Strive to be better everyday. Learn a little everyday. Make the world a better place even just for a moment. Life is a miserable heap but it can also be what we make of it. Maybe not for long but a few seconds of peace in a storm, for you or a stranger, can often be worth more than anything money could have to offer.

Be kind to one another. Peace and long life 🖖

Reading this, and remembering the context of the source material, my thoughts deviated to our present day problems. I can’t help but ask myself, “how can humans hate each other and commit the atrocities we do to other ppl?” Especially for totally pointless shit like skin color or what they would like to be called ffs. I had a thought that those ppl are presented with the struggle of life and misplace their angst at the prospect of the daily challenge of self improvement. They don’t hate ppl for the little things, not really, they just don’t know how to use their inner conflict productively.

I love Star Trek for stirring these thoughts. Thank you for your posts Stamets. Peace and long life 🖖🏻

I think a lot of atrocities come from our need to be accepted by the people around us. Especially with fascists, whose group identity is based around excluding and hurting the outgroup, they're stuck in a constant cycle of egging eachother on. One fascist says "lets beat up a black guy", the others nod, and the person who feels most vulnerable to getting kicked out of the group tries to prove he belongs by saying "Nah, let's KILL a black guy" repeat ad nauseam.

I love Star Trek for stirring these thoughts.

Same here. If more people watched Trek then maybe the world wouldn't be so hateful.

Thank you for being you. Live long and prosper. 🖖
