Like previous speeches, Netanyahu will undoubtedly cast Iran as the international community's primary antagonist. This will be given even greater emphasis considering Iran's backing of proxy organizations behind the deadliest year in Israel's history

Netanyahu arrives in New York, perhaps his second most cherished speaking engagement, next to addressing the U.S. Congress, as Israel finds itself isolated on the world stage amid the Gaza war.

World leaders over the past week have excoriated Netanyahu and his government for its conduct over the past year, driven home by the fact that he may soon be served with an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court.

To understand how it has managed to document tens of thousands of dead in Gaza to a high degree of accuracy, the processes it has used, and the philosophy behind it, Drop Site conducted an interview with Dr. Zaher al-Wahaidi, director of the information center at the Ministry of Health in Gaza who is based at Nasser hospital in Khan Younis.

The first source is e-Hospital, a computerized program, which monitors all emergency departments in government hospitals. Any casualty brought to a government hospital is registered in the emergency department through the electronic system, and the information is automatically transferred to the repository.

The second source is an Excel file provided by field hospitals that offer emergency services and handle mass casualties, like the Red Cross hospital, the Kuwaiti field hospital and so forth. These hospitals document the casualties in the Excel sheet, which they supply to us; we then process this file and upload it to our system.

A third source was introduced in January – a link provided by the Ministry of Health for reporting martyrs who had not reached ministry hospitals, remained trapped under rubble, or who could not be identified.

DSN: So the number announced by the Ministry of Health, for example, around 41,000 martyrs, could potentially be higher, but this is the figure you were able to confirm?

Dr. Zaher al-Wahaidi Correct. 41,266 martyrs [official ministry of health tally on September 16, 2024], as per the latest report. Bear in mind that the ministry releases multiple figures. The first figure of 41,266 martyrs represents the total number of martyrs who have reached the ministry's hospitals.

Sorry, the article is in Spanish, I've not found an English article about this strike.

From the article:

Almost silently and like a living tide, the call for the Strike for Palestine on September 27 , called by the unions CGT and Solidaridad Obrera (SO), has been gaining strength. Having launched the official call towards the end of August, little by little other non-majority unions (COS, SAT Granada, Co.bas...), organizations, groups from various sectors of society have shown their intention to subscribe to it. Dozens of posters in various territories of the Spanish State are already circulating, referring not only to continuing the strike but also to making it a day of active struggle throughout the day.

The General Strike has not the support of the two mayor Spanish unions (CCOO and UGT)

The manifesto, posters, support/joining form for associations and calls for picket lines/demonstrations in Catalonia (the part in Spain) are accessible from this website: https://defensempalestina.org/ (in Catalan)

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, a Democratic state lawmaker, and some news agencies are falsely claiming that U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib said Nessel’s office only filed charges against pro-Palestinian activists at the University of Michigan because she’s Jewish.

The spurious claims stem from an interview that Tlaib did with Metro Times on Sept. 13. Tlaib, who was born in Detroit to Palestinian immigrants and is the only Palestinian American member of Congress, argued the charges were an unjust and heavy-handed response to peaceful civil disobedience.

Tlaib pointed out that Nessel, who has been in office since January 2019, has not filed charges against protesters opposed to racism, police brutality, water shutoffs, and environmental contamination.

Tlaib never once mentioned Nessel’s religion or Judaism. But Metro Times pointed out in the story that Nessel is Jewish, and that appears to be the spark that led to the false claims.

Shortly after the article was published, state Sen. Jeremy Moss, a Democrat who is Jewish, posted a screenshot of the story on X and claimed that Tlaib’s response was an attempt “to divide us into ‘good’ Jews she accepts & bad Jews.”

On Sunday, CNN host Jake Tapper followed up with a segment in which he falsely claimed that Tlaib said Nessel only filed the charges “because she’s Jewish and the protesters are not.” Tapper made the statement while interviewing Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and tried to get her to weigh in on his false claim.
