Truth be told, this doesn't change much, but I'd still like to make it official.

As of about 17 days ago, I have stepped down as the head mod of 196 on both this platform and lemmy.world. I will be yielding that title to the much more qualified Qaz, who's been functionally in charge for quite a while now.

Despite what you may think, I make this choice really only for one reason: I don't have nearly enough spare time in my life to be consistently available enough to be head mod.

What does this change/what does this mean?

To be honest, pretty much nothing for all of you. I've barely been available for the past however many months it's been, and in that time the community has been run exclusively by Qaz and the rest of the team.
All that you'll see changed is that Qaz will at times be the one that makes an announcement, and Qaz is now the only person that can make moderatorial decisions (bans, ect) without checking with the rest of the team (a power reserved for head mod).
I'll still be around. I'm still a mod, I'll still do announcements at times, and the rules post will most likely stay as my account, but from now on, Qaz gets the final say, not me.

Heads up, We are mostly moving this community over to Lemmy.world. If you're wondering where most of the funny went, go to !196@lemmy.world! If you're wondering why we did this, click here.

==please incorporate the word rule in your post titles==
Here are the things that get you banned:
-saying anything remotely iffy with a lemmygrad or hexbear account
-tankie behaviour
-nazi behaviour
-authoritarian behaviour
-genocide denial
-prejudice of any kind
-anything else that is clearly bad

Things that get your post/comment removed:
-AI generated content
-anything in the banlist
-posts that are so off topic that they don't fit on 196 at all
-moldy memes (old memes, crusty memes, irrelevant memes. The type of things you'd see on your aunt's Facebook page or Elon musk's Twitter account with a laughing emoji as the caption)
-corpoposting

Ban length varies, and is mostly based off of whether or not I think you will change your behavior. I have baned certain people for upwards of 2000 days.

---------EDIT:NSFW RULES---------
NSFW Content is now fully permitted BUT it must be tagged. Any NSFW content that has not been tagged and blurred will be removed. Content warnings should also be added to the title in brackets. Example: [penis] or: [explicit description of sex].
Non-sexualized breasts of any gender are not considered inappropriate and therefore do not need to be blurred/tagged. Yes, even female breasts.

IRL GORE IS NOT PERMITTED UNDER ANY CONDITION.

JAN 2025 UPDATE: One Hundred Ninety Six
Following our mishandling of the lemmy.world migration, a group of dissenting users founded onehundredninteysix, here on lemmy.blahaj.zone. We are not affiliated with this group. Please direct any complaints related to that community to their mod team and/or Ada.

If you have any issues, please reach us at 196mods@protonmail.com. PLEASE do not dm me, as I am not consistently available and tend to step away from the mantle for weeks to months at a time.

I joined lemmy after reddit API changes, as many people did. At first, it was amazing. The community felt so alive, so friendly and welcoming. Obviously, the activity wasn't exactly as large as it was on reddit, but I was patient, I knew more stuff was coming, and I was excited for it.

Unfortunately, this period would not last long. It would not last even a week until I got into my first argument with a tankie. I saw them and argued with them from time to time on reddit, but people there usually saw right through the bullshit and downvoted them to oblivion.

Here, it was so much different. They were all upvoted and supported by hordes more tankies. Constant genocide denial in China, support for Ruzzia, and somehow, for North Korea.

In retrospect, I should have left then, abandoned lemmy then and there, not really return to reddit, just leave both alone. I would have saved myself some sanity.

But I didn't, which I regret. I wasted my time here, constantly seeing this bullshit, and sometimes I didn't even have the motivation or energy to argue with them.

The amount of genocide denial, dictatorship praising, and insane arguments I've seen in a month blew past the amount of this shit I've seen on reddit in a fucking decade.

I don't see the future in this, none whatsoever. Lemmy will be here, but it will always stay a tankie hellhole unless you block thousands of people and whole instances. And if you do, the tankies will always just migrate to other instances to keep spreading hate.

I am tired of this bullshit and I am done.

Using ableist language as insults is always bad, even if the words seem innocuous. Some may reference the "euphemism treadmill" to try to justify their behavior, but it's crucial to understand that the treadmill is merely a linguistic observation. It does not exist to normalize ableist behavior.

what is the euphemism treadmill for those who dont want to google

I've been waiting until after Christmas day to make this post, but some of our communities recently have had a lot of noise and upset over someone that uses neopronouns that most people are unfamiliar with.

So I want to make this clear. A persons pronouns are to be respected. This is true when the user is using neopronouns that you're unfamiliar with. It's true even if you think someone is trolling. Pronouns are not rewards for good behaviour. They aren't only to be respected when you like the person you're interacting with, or if their pronouns "make sense" to you. Trolls, spammers, twitter users, it doesn't matter who they are, your options are to respect their pronouns, or to not engage with them.

I really want to re-iterate the importance of this. Gender diverse folk are undermined, invalidated and questioned at every step of our lives. As a community, we need to be working to undo that, not creating more of it, and that means there is no space for treating pronouns (including neopronouns) as a reward for good behaviour.

This isn't a free reign for trolls and spammers. The rules still apply. Trolling, spamming, etc will continue to be dealt with, but it's not an excuse to act as if respecting someones pronouns is optional.

edit: As I'm seeing a lot of worry about the impact this will/could have on the community, please be assured we have the same mod team, and will be holding the community to the same standards. the same things that were always allowed will continue to be allowed and the same things that got things removed before will continue to get things removed before. Lemmy.world admins have agreed to allow us to run our community on our terms.
It is my pleasure to announce that effective immediately, we are transferring our community to Lemmy.world! This has been a few months in the making, so my entire mod team is already on board.
FAQ:
Why?
That's a complicated question with a long answer! The primary difference is moderatorial and ideologial differences between my team and Ada's excellent team of admins. We are on good terms with Ada and her team, and have gotten her consent to do this. In addition to this, we have had ongoing issues with federation and moderation that has caused a subpar experience for many people on other instances.
How does this work?
Currently, as there is not an easy way to transfer an entire community (trust me, we checked), we are locking the community as mod-only, and moving our focus to the 196 on lemmy.world. For you guys, functionally nothing has changed.
What about the posts?
Well, we tried to transfer them, but there was no real way to do so without absolutely destroying lemmy.world's federation. For this reason, we are simply archiving this community as mod-only. Everything is staying up, you just won't be able to post new content. Comments are still enabled, so we will continue to check our modlogs for some time after the transfer has settled.
As for the posts on lemmy.world's 196, we're leaving those up too. From this point onwards, all posts made to that community are beholden to the rules you are all used to, but anything pre-existing is getting grandfathered in.

IF YOU GUYS HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, PLEASE PUT THEM IN THE COMMENTS OF THIS POST, AND I'LL DO MY BEST TO ANSWER THEM.
Once again, here's the link to our new apartment of awesome. (universal: !196@lemmy.world)

Text:

All the ways people can be not cis

(Not really, there's too many to list in a single post)

Transgender:
When one's assigned gender at birth is different from one's actual gender.

Ipsogender:
Intersex people who identify as their assigned gender at birth, but do not feel the term "cisgender" applies to them.

Ultergender:
Intersex people who identify as a gender other than their assigned gender at birth, but do not feel the term "transgender" describes them due to being intersex. A "trans intersex" person.

Cisn't:
An umbrella for anyone who isn't cisgender.

Transn't:
An umbrella for anyone who isn't transgender.

Isogender:
When you're not cis, but you don't identify as trans.

Absgender:
Someone beyond, between or removed from cis/trans dichotomy.

Centrgender:
An umbrella for anyone who isn't cisgender or transgender.

Utrinquegender:
Someone who has aspects of both trans and cis experiences.

Adgender:
When someone moves towards a particular gender expression. Includes trans people as well as people who are not trans but still transition.

Demicisgender:
Identifying partially as your assigned gender/sex at birth, and partially not.

Demitransgender:
Identifying partially, but not completely as transgender.

As shown here, it's definately not a binary Even though some people think it is.

I made this because I wanted to educate people on the diversity of gender modalities and show that it's way more complicated than saying not-cis = trans like people often say. There's way more nuance to it.

Does anyone here think they may relate to any of these other labels? I relate and identify with Isogender personally.

I don’t think the person on the left’s a transphobe, but I also don’t think they understand the scale of the harassment trans people face on a daily basis. Like it’s so bad the users would rather just have potential trolls ignored and downvoted than to see well meaning cis people come in and do vigilante justice using the same tactics of abuse trans people go through every day.

That empathetic disconnect looks like transphobia to some users. I don’t know that the users are right, but I understand how you reached that conclusion, especially with the person on the left’s days-long soapbox crashout about how despotic Ada is.
